A couple of months ago it was mentioned that the Koa BFRs would henceforth be honey burst as opposed to tobacco burst. I know what honeyburst looks like on maple, but I suspect it will look somewhat darker on koa.

Have any photos of this finish been made available? Perhaps some lucky knucklehead has acquired one by now?

Was that spalted maple JP Honey Burst? I know it wasn't Koa but I assume it would look similar. But I'm not even sure if it was Honey Burst anyway. Do they still have gold hardware?

I'm not sure any of these have been shipped yet; didn't EBMM take orders for Koa in tobacco burst until say October 15th? I'm not 100% sure of the date; I know October 15th was the last day to order the discontinued solid colors since I got an order for an Olive Gold Silo Special in just under the wire. However, I'm not sure if the cut-off for the BFR colors was the same date or a bit later.

At any rate based on my delivery date I wouldn't expect to see a honeyburst Koa until sometime in late January at the earliest (maybe at the NAMM show).

That Shopatron Luke BFR looks incredible! Thanks for pointing that out, bkrumme. Tempting ...

I agree that it looks like the older pre-October 15 finish, but it's hard to tell from the lighting in the photo. Koa is a darker wood, so I suspect that honeyburst on koa will look somewhere between tobacco burst on koa and honey burst on maple or ash.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on something EBMM with a petite neck, mahogany body, and mahogany neck: ASS (secret fantasy!), Luke BFR, JP6 BFR, ... or ??? To the extent that my next Ball must have lots of mahogany, it looks like koa is probably in my future. :)

I love the darker wood finishes: see the walnut burst in my avatar. I'm not crazy about gold hardware from the photos, but I am trying to learn to like it.

I won't disagree. It *does* look dark like the Tobacco Burst koa finish, but we haven't seen a Honey Burst koa yet so we don't know what it *really* looks like. Honey Burst and Tobacco Burst are close in the first place. Only reason I think it's Honey Burst is because the Shopatron site is run by Music Man...so why would they say it's Honey Burst if it's really Tobacco Burst?

Maybe it's a stock photo of a Tobacco Burst Koa as a placeholder until they produce and photo a Honey Burst Koa?

I don't know. The guitars on Shopatron are ones they have available and ready to ship. The only question is whether the picture is of the actual guitar...and whether there's much difference between Tobacco Burst and Honey Burst.

Ok guys, here's the scoop. That BFR Luke that is listed on the Shopatron site is indeed Tobacco Burst. I will change the color listed on the site in just a bit. I apologize for the confusion on this one! That picture is the actual one we have here in stock.

Thanks for the clarification, Aziah! Any word when we'll see some Honey Burst Koa pics pop up?

+1 I'd love to see what it looks like.

I agree with you, Phil. Typically Honey Burst is lighter than Tobacco Burst. Just trying to give them the shadow of a doubt :D
