Anybody out there who can give me the value on an Earthwood Bass? Or where I might find one?

Hey Hawk,

Ernie Ball isn't in the vintage instrument industry, and therefore cannot accurately estimate your instrument's value. A good place for you to check with is Gruhn Guitars. www.gruhn.com may be a good starting place. Thanks.

Earthwoods bring from $3 - 10 Thousand dollars. Every now and then I toy with selling mine but it would have to "go to a good home", and I don't know where to find that. It REALLY has that bass "thud" that is so coveted. And it is FUN to play, and a real eye-catcher and conversation piece. Mine is apparently the 6th one made, and is one of the rarer 8-inch deep models. I'm building a page to put up on the web so others can appreciate it. There will be lots of pics. There is a full-frontal pic attached to my Ernie Ball forum username.

Nice!

Hey Bassmedic, Nice find, same price as I paid and another great story. They do make one a bit giddy then ya play it. Haven't been able to go a day without picking it up and at least playing a few minutes. Makes all my other acoustic basses sound lame.
Did you happen to watch the auction on ebay that ended last weekend? One found a guy that knew it was rare but did not know much else. Search ended auctions as it was pretty close to yours. $4550
Have a some pictures in a post about the adjustment if you are interested.

We should keep on #6 to get some sort of web page going...

Hey "Wannabass" nice fretless, I noticed your tuners are different, what year is yours? Mine was made sometime in 1977. ..........
And yes we should keep on #6 to make some sort of Webpage or maybe some sort of historic page for Earthwoods for the Company.....I would gladly share pics of my baby!

Happy New Year All,
Mine is an 83, probably one of the last made as I hear they stopped production near 85...Ill have to find the pictures of yours again.
Love your story about the find, paid the same price as me!
We will have to figure out how to do this web page thing as this bass is worth putting something like this together. I find myself picking it up at least a few minutes every day.
Peace,
WB

Looking for an Earthwood

Hi everybody. I am new to the forum, and I figured this was the place to ask the following questions:

(1) Is there any truth to the rumor that the Earthwood acoustic basses are going to be reissued?

(2) If so, are people able to pre-order them?

(3) If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to find a used one?

It's a shot in the dark, but I figured if anyone had any info, it would be you guys. Thanks.

I'd like to know, too. I wonder what that would do to the value of my '73. I've been considering selling mine, since I just ordered a brand new top-of-the-line pedal steel. Maybe by the time I do 25 posts I'll decide. Then I'll post here.

I enjoyed your pics. Your peghead is prettier than mine. I noticed the label on my late '72-early '73 says "Earthwood Acoustical Bass" and yours says "Earthwood Bass". I guess they figured the acoustical part was fairly obvious.

So, are you often in the habit of "field stripping" your ABG?

No I have never field striped mine yet......But your fretless is awesome!

As far as I know, they are not reissuing the Earthwoods, and just sure dumb luck and being at the right place at the right time or rather it found me. Good luck on the hunt.
