I am afraid that if I buy a bongo 5 string I won't ever play my stingrays again. I love my rays so much and I would feel bad if they were neglected. I have read so many praises of bongos on here and have thought about buying one for a long time. I have found a couple of used ones that I could buy and all of a sudden I realized I am scared for the sake of my rays. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I talk to a therapist?

I got a Bongo, and my remaining StingRay is now for sale (and I've prettymuch sorted out a dealwith something...else....heheh)

So, get a Bongo by all means. But then be prepared to get another.

Check one out. It's not like the Bongo is some magical beast that is going to trick you into exclusively playing it.

I'm from the other side or the tracks. I tried one. I mean it's a nice bass....But it's just not my thing. I prefer a Stingray.

For me it started with a StingRay 5, I then ventured on to the Bongo 5 and then I ordered a 25th but I go back to all my "older" basses as they are all part of my life with none of them taking a back seat, so to speak. Furthermore there is a particular mojo flavour in the StingRay 5 that cannot be found on any other bass and if you love it you know you will go back to it as if your life depended on it. So don't be afraid.

Im gas'in for a bongo but im aproching it with the attitude that is another bass to go with my well loved stingray, a stingray's a stingray an anything else isnt. (there just both made by E.B) i hope my attitude stay the same when i eventualy get one.

Don't be afraid.

You can't get a Ray out of a Bongo...

I have both, love both, use both...Put Flats on the Ray..like I did...you'll have the best of ALL worlds.

MK

I plan on doing something similar. I am going to keep the rounds on the Sterling. It has the one humbucker, maple fretboard, and a cool aggressive sound. Plus the red colour matches the character of the bass.

The Bongo HH will get Flats. I will use more of the neck pickup for a deep dark smooth sound. Again the colour (black) will match the character of the bass.

That's the plan anyway...

I really like my bongo, I love my stingrays and my big al. I may be trading my bongo for another ray in the near future. I'm sure ill have another one at some point.

I know exactly what you mean, everytime i play my 30th i just fall in love with it again and that leaves me neglecting my 20th (which i hardly touch anymore). Now i have a chance to get a bongo in the next week or so and I really dont know what to do, im completely satisfied with my 30th but all you asses rave on about bongos and im starting to question myself.

Don't worry, it's all good

I have a Bongo 4 and love it but I still have my Ray 5HH and still love that and use it for some sounds/styles that just sound better than the 4H. I think the slap sound on the Ray 5HH is just unbeatable. I played Strummers Bongo 5HSp and loved that too and while that makes me gas for a B5er I still wouldn't part with the Ray 5.

I once thought when I bought the Ray 5 it might mean I wouldn't play the Ray 4 anymore but, you know, they are different beasts and so kept both.

So what happens is you just end up with a house slowly filling up with Balls..

My Bongo will have nothing in common with my 'Rays...which have little in common with each other. Each one will compliment the other.

Hey 57...It can happen, but they are both different basses...although, here lately, I can say I've become quite a fan of the Bongo.

I just sold one of my 2 SRs so I could buy my 2nd Bongo. I think I would have sold the Stingray anyway, because ever since picking up the SR HH, the HS wasn't being used.....at all!

You'll like a Bongo....especially if you play Rock music.

i have a cheap fernandes PJ i suped up long ago, it was my first bass, the things so sentimental to me im not going to part with it even though i play almost exclusively on the stingray. im getting a ampeg SVT CL soon too and im not pawning off my kustom 1200 watt amp anytime soon because hey i might need 1200 watts some day...

to me the bongo made me feel like i was gonna get spoiled if i got one. that i would never tweak amp knobs again, i mean it has KNOBS ON TOP OF KNOBS MAN! it was so simple to operate that yeah i could see myself playing nothing but. but the stingray is so classy and pretty lookin' and soundin'. its a lot more work to eq in conjunction with the amp but its well worth it when you finally get the sound you want out of it. and to me the connection i have to having that ideal sound through all that work would keep me playing on it had i invested the 1500 on a bongo cause i cant get it anywhere else. i got some pretty awesome sounds out of a bongo without even trying to, the eqs made that incredibly easy but the sound i got out of the stingray to me is very much my own sound i picked out and have loved since.

I have 2 Rays and 2 Bongo. Between the two Rays, they are different. Between the 2 Bongos, they are different. Between the Rays and the Bongos, they are all different and unique. All kick, all are smooth, all are ballsy but each in their own way. Come on in, the water's fine...
