Wow!

That's a lot of cash!

I thought there was a recession....
Only for some of us Jimmyb, only for some of us :(
The sad part is that it's probably going to get locked away in a collector's vault somewhere...instead of being played and enjoyed by somebody who can appreciate the craftsmanship, sound, and playability of such a fine instrument.....me for instance :D

I am trying to evaluate the importance of this guitar. As I understand he used it a bit on tour and gave it to Nuno's wife-period. I could see if it was his original Frankenstrat which I could see selling for a lot more but this is mind blowing.

Even throwing in the EBMM EVH fact that it is one of his original first brand guitars that there were only 26 of but I would have to believe he had a lot more rare EVHs like prototypes and the very first one he used, or recorded with. But the fact remains it was one he gave away. Wow! Well everyone should be happy anyway as I have brought up many times in other forums that all the guitars used starting with VH1 and through the 80s like EBMM, Kramers, Jacksons, Charvels, Ibanez and the likes will one day have a big demand. Maybe not like the vintage axes of the 50s and 60s and the insane prices they brought, but still a demand that will make the original guitars of that era highly collectible.

Lets face it, guys have always liked to collect things from Cars to Baseball cards to guitars which have always been highly collectible. And the guys who really drove those guitars through the roof were more Doctors and Lawyers and the likes way more than musicians who grew up idolizing the guys they grew up on and listened to and those guys are getting up there in age. The generation that followed that grew up on late 70s 80s and early 90s rock had bands and players that really did not use many Fenders and Gibsons, and there will no doubt be a change in a lot of the axes they will be chasing. If anyone had last months Premiere guitar magazine, in the vintage story it was a guy with all 80s axes. So if this is a peak 10 years into the future I am fine with it.

$75,000........oh my. How do you pay 75K for a guitar thats buy it now for 30K

Exactly!!?? There is something VERY strange with this Auction. It was $29,995 Buy it Now or Best Offer. Instead of paying $75K , the "buyer" could just have hit the Buy it Now , and it would have been his for $29,995 !!
There is a story here ..................
My guess is that someone thought the $30K was so obscene a price, that they threw in a $75K offer for fun to see what would happen ................
(Some kid with no ability to spend even $1K on a guitar).

I dont have a clue but I sent an email to the place that was selling the guitar and asked them to explain what happened and if the 75K offer was refused. There were 8 bids on the guitar and Island Boy you might be right because the next to last one expired and the last one was declined but that bidder only had 5 transactions. Lets see what they have to say.

Well, if they've got the money to spend, good on them.

Hopefully it will have gone to a real fan, or someone who will play the thing, but even if not, there are plenty more great guitars out there for the rest of us.

Actually he didn't say it was Ed's guitar reread his post

you'd want to be absolutely positive that it was before 30k was dropped into his PayPal account. If not I know of one going for 10 grand...

that guitar Was used in many promo shots and is in the booklet of the lrhrn double disc. there are plenty of pictures floating around of ed with the guitar. it wasnt ever used live but he did own it.
