Hi everyone. I am, new to this forum but an old player. I really like the vibe of this forum, and I am looking forward to participating. I used to own a Ball EVH back in the 90's but sold it a while back. I recently picked-up a stock 09 JP6 and found out is was born just two weeks before the new pickup change to the liquiFire/Crunch Labs. Mine is 6-12-09 and I understand the change came at 6-26-09. Can someone school me on the JP6 pickup changes over the years...also which neck pickup do I have? I know the treble pup is a D-sonic. Thanks in advance!

The first combination on the original JP's was the modified Steve's Special in the bridge with an "Air Norton Light" in the neck position. Around 2006, the SS was replaced by the D-sonic, neck pup was the same. Both pups also went into the BFR's as original equipment. June 2009 brought the Liquifyer/Crunch Lab combo on the standard and BFR JP's.

Thanks kneeoh....do you think there would be an advantage to swapping in a liquifyer into the neck or should I just leave it be? It sounds pretty good as is, but it seems "the grass is always greener".... I saw the JP video interview on the BFR and I believe he said that he went back to the d-sonic bridge so I would probably leave that be.

Can you post a link to the JP video interview where he discusses pickups and returning to the D-Sonic? Maybe he's kept a few guitars around with the D-Sonic still in them, but a complete return would be surprising. Thanks!

I don't believe he has gone back to the D-sonic. If he had, the new JP's would have them. Besides, these new pups were designed by Dimarzio with JP for his sig guitars. As far as swapping out the neck pup, that's up to you. I never feel the need to change out mine and I have at least one JP with each pup configurations... I love the variety.

Sorry, my mistake,...it was an older vid before the new pickups had come out. He talks about the d-sonic at 3:30

I will try to post pics of my JP in next couple days. Thanks for all the replys! I think I will keep mine stock.
