Hey guys. I'm kinda ampless right now since I have shot tubes in my Peavey and kinda wanna get rid of it anyway, I found Mesa amps to really work well with EBMM guitars (everyone I've played). It seems that Mr. Ball and the guys at Mesa have the same direction with their products as far as the vintage-modern balance and flexibility, etc. Anyway I love my ASS through the Mark V and the Lonestars I've tried but I'm on a budget now and I need something to use in the condo and somewhat small> Looking at the Express amps mainly the 5:25 (which I think is phenomenal). What do you guys think?

Good choices if you like Boogie amps. If you're patient, you can sometimes find some great deals on used Boogies too.

I LOVE my express 5:25, I have found them to be slightly different from the rest of the Mesa line. They have a very unique tone but it works with my JP7. Like most other Mesa amps you can get amazing tones, the nice thing is can't get a bad tone out of it my only issue with mine is that it is a single 12. It would be the perfect amp if it was housed in a 2x12 box.

I also have a rack mounted Rectifer preamp and simul 2:90 power amp that I use, setting it to 1/2 drive puts them both on the same level

I am REALLY digging my Mark V. Highly recommend if you can swing it. If you are on a budget then the DC series is no slouch for the money. I loved my DC-3 when I had it!

I've never tried the DC but I have all the newest ones and like all of them except the roadster for leads. I want a series loop and I need something small; I'm even thinking do I want the 10 over the 12 inch. But I do like the express maybe as much as the lonestar or close.

Is there a Mesa Priced for about $600 that can deliver the Mark (X) tone?...

With some patience and lots of hunting, you can find Mark III's for aroun 700-850

I had one of these for a good amount of time, and loved it. It certainly has that Mark series tone.

I have a Mesa Subway Blues that I got quite cheap (very cheap to be honest) and it's a nice little amp...can be really loud though, more than enough for home use!
So if you're on a budget I'd probably look out for one of these.

Yep..I can vouch for the DC 3. I still have one as well as my Lonestar. Awesome cleans from it too. Great powerful (very) little amp if you can find one

No offence but I am surprised you're spider can even be heard over the drummer. Any time i had to use a spider III at a rehearsal room it was just mud and lacked any definition or dynamics. It also got lost in the live mix very easily.

I am not trying to be mean but I am saying that if you move to a real amp you are either going to like it or hate it. Simply because you're playing style is going to have to change considerably also it might not have the gain you are looking for. The model of mesa that you probably use on the spider will be somewhat related to a rectifier and that is a completely different beast to the amp that you will end up with at you're budget.

To be honest you're budget takes you out the running for the Mesa you need.
If I were you I would look into the Bugera 5150 copies.

i use one dual rectifier 3-channel head (6L6) plus one roadster (EL34) with my main rig.
it´s awesome how both amps work together.
at home i´m using the classic studio preamp via the recording outs. i used the studio pre a lot for recordings - it´s a sweet sounding preamp.
if you are more into a small amp / combo you should check out the F-30 combo.
this thing rocks! i like it more than the new express series.

The Subway Blues might not be the ideal gigging amp...20W and a 10" speaker...if you have a decent extension cabinet it could work though...!

I have an Express 5:50 with 1-12. I recently bought the extension 1-12 cabinet which really made a huge difference, very pleased with it.

It's interesting how different each line of Mesa amps sound. Generally, people think of the Rectos as the 'Mesa Tone' when really there is a really broad range of sounds-Lonestars, DC's, Marks, etc.

I'm not a big fan of the the Rectos but I love the Lonestar Special and the Stilleto. It can get confusing. A lot of people want a Boogie but are overwhelmed when they start considering all of the choices.

CJ, you are the 1st guy that I have heard enjoys the Lonestar special. What exactly do you like about it, to the standard Lonestar is an amazing amp but I just couldnt get into the tone of the special. Im curious what you use it for?
