I ordered this baby barely two weeks before the color was discontinued and she arrived yesterday. I have barely got to play her as I picked it up after work last night, worked all day today and again tomorrow but I had to snap a few pics once I got her home. So far, I am in complete heaven! Its a very different bass then my Stingrays but so far there is nothing not to love.
The action is amazing, the neck feels like a dream. The bass has some weight to it but nowhere near as heavy as my SR5. After unwrapping it at the dealer, I plugged into a Mesa Scout combo and the tone just melted my face off. All the growl and snarl I hoped to find from the single H was there in spades. The Bongo has so much familiarity as the single pup and three band eq are just like my Stingrays, but the overall feel and tone is quite different.
Now lets talk about the color. It is completely true that this is one of those colors that is impossible to photograph accurately. The pics i took here really don't do the color justice in any way. Its so sparkly and warm, yet very alive and fun. Even my wife, who display's no interest in my bass gear at the best of times, did a double take when I opened the case and commented that it was an impressive looking instrument.
A big thanks to BP and the crew, especially A.J. who was great to deal with and could not have been more helpful. I have to say the Canadian retailer (Long & Mcquade) was fantastic as well and covered the extra shipping to have the bass sent directly from SLO to my local store. This saved the bass being shipped with a full order to the head office on the other side of the country before being sent here.
This is my third EBMM bass and my first Bongo. BP and the gang sure treat us lefty's well, offering as much variety as they do. i could not be happier and cannot wait to get some playing time in over the next few weeks.
Here are my meager attempts at decent photos. The plastic is still on the torte but the pickguard looks great with this color. truly one of the most unique color's I have ever seen. I can finally call myself a Bonogloid!
