Ooh! Ooh! The Celine Dion version? :p:D

Voted the worst cover of all time.

Lets blame Celine's "father-husband or whatever he is to her" for that.

No no, our cover was pretty cool Our lead singer is a cool hot rocker chick with the right pipes for this song.

I'll send you a picture of my lead singer if you send me a picture of your singer.;););)

Oh dear, Powman is spamming his own thread with a p0rn tease, mention female singers, big pair of lungs and next thing you know we have a Dolly Parton lookalike competition... guys guys!! (shaking head) there's ladies in this forum too, notwithstanding the wives and girlfriends of other members who might feel offended!

There's plenty of websites for that sort of thing. (Ask Jack for links) :D

New band Halestorm has a chick singer a couple of good songs..." I get Off" and " Its Not You". Any of the 80's stuff with those high pich singers can often be pulled by chicks better than guys. Think about some Motley Crue, Tesla, oh yeah... " Youth Gone Wild" by Skid Row might do well at a club. If I had a chick sing I would call her Rosie and deff do "Whole Lotta Rosie"

If she can do AC/DC well (wow!), then there are a couple of other songs to suggest besides Back in Black (which is one of my favorite rock songs of all time)...

- Highway To Hell

and some tunes that lots of hard rock fans will know:

- Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
- T.N.T.
- Problem Child
- Whole Lotta Rosie (though that might be odd sung be a woman)
- Jailbreak

Those are all originally sung by Bon Scott and might be too low for your singer.

Yeah, we plan on doing Highway to Hell. I think it will work well

Yesterday we practiced Joan Jett I Hate Myself for Loving You. Now I never owned any Joan Jett and apart from the 99 cent iTunes purchases I need to for learning songs, I don't plan on buying more. But its a perfect bar rock song for our band.

American Woman worked well too...but we need to make it a bit more interesting as it is repetitive.

And Grand Wazoo...I promise to behave from now on.

.38 special - hold on loosely
heart - magic man
the cars - just what I needed
doobie brothers - listen to the music
tracy chapman - talkin' 'bout a revolution
eric clapton - after midnight (the older upbeat version)
the eagles - life in the fast lane
blue oyster cult - I'm burnin' for you

just some stuff from the top of my head that would probably please the typical bar-gig crowd.
just remember - when all else fails you can always revert to Freebird or Mustang Sally :D

If you play free gigs you will never earn a paid one. There is no getting that good doing covers.

imho

Yes you are going to need good originals to end up in the paying market IMHO.

There is money in playing in cover bands but you have to start out getting paid. Once you play for free then the venue will always expect you to play for free.

I am not sure I totally agree with you about the original material. I think if you REALLY want to make it then yes you are correct. But I have no plans on quitting my day job. This is for enjoyment purposes...just like some people play golf, take up skiing, fishing whatever. This is my R and R. So we want to do about 4-6 gigs a year, thats all.

But I do agree about the "free" stuff. I put lots of hours of practicing, plus cost of lessons, and gear! Then when we do a gig, we attract people to the venue who buy beer and food making profit for the bar.

If we can't get paid, then we will have the concert at my house and have a house party. Or it is a charity event raising money for a cause, I will do it for free.

Doing stuff for free also undermines professional working musicians. It breaks my heart how little most musicians get paid, despite all the years of study and practice. I am not sure how we got to this point, but it seems worse today then it was years ago. maybe it has something to do with the fact that teenagers today rarely pay for music on the MP3 players, I don't know.

Then you have the idea I was trying to convey.

The songs you and your band learn should just be fun ones you want to play.

Doesn't take long to build up an 85 song list if everyone in the band wants to.
