And it's finally here!

I've finally received my EBMM Bongo 4 HH Dargie Delight II ! My first MusicMan as well! Serial: F20435 Hopefully someone from EBMM could chime in and tell me the DOB.

Ok, haven formally introduced myself yet on this forum. But since this arrived. It's time to start.

... And I have no idea where to start the introduction... ahh. forget it..
We'll just start with the bass!

After the long holiday break, a friend of mine arrived today with the bass! My gosh. The moment i opened it and took it out for a spin. It was great! The neck feels very comfortable and playable. The tone is simply awesome! Although I'm just playing straight into my audio interface, it still manages to pump out some low thumpy notes. Can't be compared when it's plugged into an amp though.

The array of tones i can get out of this baby is amazing!!
In my opinion, it's a Stingray and more!

Gotta thank Brandt and the guys at TPB for this amazing bass!
And most of all, gotta thank BP for the amazing work put into the Bongo. It's really great!

So less words and more pics... Pardon the pics. My room isn't that great for taking pics.

The only problem. There seems to be some odd paint work on the neck. Like a lil of the Dargie paint came onto the ebony neck or sth. Hardly noticeable in low light.

And some quick questions..
- Is it alright if I use the EB wonder wipes on the neck? As it's an ebony neck.
- should i switch to flats?

The finish indeed awesome in person. I don't know much bout the first run of Dargie's. But this is stunning!

But what matters most is it sounds superb. I just spent all my time on it since I brought it back. Neglecting my mountain of work on the table... Dang..

Alright gonna swap out for flats tomorrow and give the neck a wipe.

I realized the setup on this isn't that great.

The neck seems straight to me. But the strings are kinda too low. To the extent I cant play any harmonics or do any tapping on certain frets. And there is constant buzz on the G string.

Oh well, gonna take it to a tech tomorrow to get t sorted and slap on some flats!

it's a bit extreme but... the main advice is: Give it some time to adjust to its new home before doing any adjustments...

Take Oli’s advice and give it a few days to adjust. It was great when I boxed up but the temperature and humidity in Louisiana is crazy right now… If it’s not right in a day or so give me a call and I’ll walk you thought a quick adjust, if that doesn’t fix it then you can bring it to a local tech.

It's a great bass! Played it for 4 hours straight last night. Could not get my hands off it.

Ebony fretboards are teh win. This is a very pretty bass, and like the others said: let it sit a while. I regretted bringing my bongo to a "qualified tech". With the help of adouglas and others i was able to set it up myself, and learn a lot in that process.

Brandts help will be worth a lot more than a "pro" setup.

After looking at the neck. I realised it's bowed by quite abit. Probably check again in afew days. If it's something I cant do, I'll probably send it to my tech.

Leaving my Bongo on the stand, everytime i walk by it. I never fail to sit and pick it up and play it for a while. It's just too beautiful to say no!

I think the most important one is: don't mess with the saddles. If you change string gauges or something like that this might be required, otherwise just give the truss rod wheel a small turn until things are correct.

After that tech messed with my bongo and tried to set it up like you would any other bass i had serious clanking of the E string. With two modes: much too high to play or clank on the fretboard if plucked a little too hard. That wasn't the case when i first got the bass.

What the others at the forum told me basically was to use the FAQ to reset the bass to factory defaults. Well and that is what works superb for me. I had to adjust PU height a bit, took me about an hour or two to set all the correct measures... then wait a day and check again, rinse and repeat maybe once or twice. Once you are there, adjust action height just by using the truss rod wheel.

If i look down the back of the neck of my bongo there seems to be quite a noticeable bow near the end of the neck (headstock side). This seems to be normal. My other two basses don't have that, at least not so obvious. Since every EBMM i had in my fingers had this i don't think that's something bad.

Thanks for your input. It's been 2 days with hours of playing and the G string is still pretty much impossible to play any harmonics. it just buzzes like mad!
Give it another day and I'll probably send it to my tech. And change to flats at the same time.

I'm just loving the tone of the Bongo. Maybe we should create a thread with our 'go-to' settings for the bongo. Just to share the different tones people like and maybe a new insight to the flexibility of the pre-amp.
