i think you will have better luck with asking this question on a forum that deals with pickups from replacement suppliers or a general forum (eg talkbass et al) :)

I have the Bartolini PU on two basses, a fretted and a fretless, and it doesn´t sound anywhere near the real thing. I´m no good when it comes to replacement PU´s so I can´t help you unfortunately but I wouldn´t go with the Bartolini. It´s a fine PU indeed but nowhere close to the original. I too would recommend you to search on other bass related forums regarding this matter since it´s rather likely that you´ll find greater knowledge else where. We kind of like the original PU and electronics..... :)

best you can do it keep checking ebay, they come up occasionally. I've also achieved a similar sound from a seymour duncan basslines pickup, nordstrand are supposed to be fairly similar too i think?

Even if you were to use a real MusicMan pickup in another bass, it's unlikely that it will approach the real sound without pairing it with the proper preamp, which is also made by Music Man.

I'm a big fan of bartollinis. it's certainly different than the musicman pickups, but they do have a great sound. I think EMG makes some good replacement pickups too.
