Little Video Of My Big Al VS My New Ray

My Big Al vs My Stingray, just a comparison between the two. i BELIEVE my action on the stingray is a bit lower and the strings are older where as the big al's strings are brand new.

Coil 1 & 2 parallel EQ FLAT VS STINGRAY EQ FLAT.

You can hear the difference, the big al sounds a little. More.... Clean, modern, more processed sounding?

There both great basses. The stingray still needs a little work, and I need a little getting used to the neck as I have only been playing the sterling neck for the past year or so.

Based on the two settings that you have chosen to compare them against, I have to favour the sound of the StingRay, specially in that initial arpeggio. Even if as you say the strings are older and there is a bit of buzz from the Ray, well the sound is more... how can I say, you could have blind folded me and I would have been able to recognize the great shark sound of the Ray

I do like the Big Al sound but the pickup choice you've used did not make the Big Al prevail against the Ray mothership.

The Al sounds good, and the stingray sounds good. Personally I like the Stingray sound more. And for the record, I used to think the Bongo was the ugliest bass ever, until the Big Al came along lol.

Personally I feel Stingrays (and probably the rest of the musicman lineup) sound best with a bit of fretbuzz when you dig in. Don't know why but it gives an edge that speaks well with these instruments.

I have owned everytype of music man and I'd have to agree, though some more than others. I like to keep my bingo clean and my bug al a little ity bit dirty.

I think thats the point. The Stingray is king in the parallel setting, while the Big Al is strong in the series setting and with coils 1&3 in parallel, active and passive.

I think it is a bit like comparing a P to a J. They both have sounds the other one does not have.

The Big Al has a rosewood fretboard whereas the 'Ray has a maple fretboard. This also makes a difference.
