So I called my luthier and he told me that I'm going to need to adjust the nut so I don't break it. I'm very apprehensive about making this big of a change to my instrument. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on how to get around this?

I use Power Slinkys with my Bongo and SUB with no trouble whatsoever. I have been playing in drop C with the SUB with some folks I have been jamming with, they're a little floppy but it's still totally manageable. I never even thought twice about it- I just assumed that if they made a 4 string set of Slinkys, it would fit a 4 string EBMM bass.

Thanks for the advice, I decided just to go ahed and put them on, right now they have some tension (its not tunned up all the way), and im noticing that the D and G strings dont fit in the nut all the way, I can see a small space between the bottom of the nut and the string, this concerns me a little. It does not (so far) seem to be affecting the action in any noticeable way, however I figured I would stop here until I get someone to report back.

Thanks!

so I decided just to go ahead and set it up: tuned it up, adjusted the truss rod (quarter turn to take out relief), lowered the bridge saddles a hair, and intonated the instrument. so far so good, took it to band practice today, and it played like a dream, like it always does... every time! :D
