I once again am attempting to revisit the world of effects pedals. This time I am looking at Chorus pedals. I got talked into an Electro-harmonix Clone Theory. Sounded ok in the very noisy store, but when I tried it at home, it doesn't sound quite right. I am going to return this tomorrow in exchange for something else

So, what's everyone's favorite Chorus pedal under $100?

And while you are at it, also if you could please tell me if you put your Chorus pedal into the input jack of your amp or if you use your effects send/return?

Bummer.

I have a EHX Small Clone Theory and it really works for me. I bought it as I'm a big fan of Peter Hook with Joy Division/New Order... I believe he leaves his on 100% of the time. The pedal I own nailed the tone for the songs I wanted to use it on...

I have the Digitech bass multi chorus and it works great. I'm not very big on effects pedals though

Yes you can, ask your wifey first. Listen, remember what that nice man from Mark Bass CS said? modulating effects are better used via the send and return whereas compressors and eq's are better fed through the instrument input.

I have tried that Chorus, its very clever becasue if you find a setting you like you can store up to 6 different settings and you can add more from the pc that other users have made and you can download from the Mark Bass website, you can't get better.

The chorus sound is very nice and subtle on medium settings and it can go really pink floyd if you want it to, the flanger is also interesting but not something I really like as it is too 80's reminescent. But you might like it, if you try, as our tastes might well differ.

Good luck and remeber....

Ask your wife first and......

Told ya! :D

I don't have to ask the wifey about $100 purchases...just the big ticket ones, so I am ok. But thanks for watching out for me Wazoo.

I have never seen the Markbass Chorus in any stores...maybe on-line order??

Analogman Chorus is the best chorus I've played with bass. Not sure what the price is though, I expect it is >$100. You won't get a good quality pedal for less than $100.

I'm struggling with the whole concept of effects because I hail from the sound REPRODUCTION side, where one strives for the fewest components and connections in the signal chain to get the purest sound. BUT, we're talking about sound PRODUCTION here. There is no hard and fast rule for what YOUR (or MY) sound should sound like. I'm not to chorus yet, so I don't have a recommendation. Chorus is SUPPOSED to go in the loop, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to put it there. Whatever gives you the sound you like. Sorry I haven't really contributed anything useful here, so here's my best advice:

Anthony Wellington said he has every effect pedal ever made, but he just lets his students play with them. He uses no effects. Hmmmmm

Hmmm. Ok, how about a vote then:

A. EHX Clone Theory
B. Digitech Bass Chorus
D. Boss Bass chorus
E. Stop wasting money and keep on saving for that Bongo that will be here in 6-8 weeks.

and that!

And: A really good chorus (with less options than the MarkBass) is the T.C. Chorus (build with hight quality components, it's actually good enough to use it in the FX loop in a studio mixing desk). Unfortunately I never was able to try an Analogman or MarkBass Chorus, which seem to be tuned especially for bass and might to get even better results for that application. That said, I have all my FX on the board in front of the input. I don't want to run several cables to and from the amp. In a real world situation on a stage that's much worse for the signal than using modulation FX before the amp.

Do that.

Honestly having gone from different effects.. Chorus, delay, dist, fuzz, etc.

I still prefer just the unaltered bass tone with some compression if needed straight to the board or amp.

But if you're looking at something decent, the analogman chorus is good. get the ones with the deep setting. :)

I use the Boss CEB-3, have tried loads of chorus pedals and this seems to me to be about the best of the lot with out spending loads , and i generaly put it through the front of the amp, as its about the only pedal that i use, appart from overdrive, an thats not often.
But your option 'E' is good :)
but why not do both, its not like a single stop box gonna break the bank :p
My board is down to guitar-tuner-overdrive-chorus-amp. works for me .

A little OT, but the bass synth out of the markbass series is great. Just struggling with myself about the price, especially when getting torture like we do for the last two days.

Ahh...now we are getting a bit off topic. I toyed with the idea of bass synth as well 'cause it sounds so COOL... But at that prce point, I really should be putting those shekels towards the Bongo.

That is exactly what I am going to do. I listened to some chorus pedals on the internet. One thing I like about the Boss is that it has a high frequency cutoff. So you can set it to only affect the higher notes and leave the low pitched ones alone.

So if I am doing, say, "Sweet Child O Mine" I could leave it on for the whole song since the Chorus effect would only be applied to the higher pitched bass intro.
