This time try before you buy eh powman?

I say this coz... I grew bored of the BOSS CEB-3 in two nanoseconds when I tried it, it only offer one sound with the option of making it more or less noticable in the mix. The split you've mentioned on the high frequencies cutoff tends to make your natuaral bass frequencies very thin as a result so watch out. I only want to prevent you from wasting money.

Boss is always available in the FS forums @ TB for $40 or so. It's a good pedal for the money.

Also, I'm using a MB 2x10 combo (MBII head) and a SBMM SB14 Sterling.....not exactly the same, but very close. For chorus I'm using an EBS UniChorus which I greatly enjoy. I had a CEB3 and replaced it with the EBS....seems to work better with bass. You can find the EBS used for about $110.00

I also use the Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus; it gets the job done without a lot of coin.

I make sure I buy from a place with a good return policy. The store is usually way too noisy to really hear how the pedal sounds. So I do my best to try it in the store first, but I know I need to really give it a good listen at home.

So anyway, I did pick up the Boss Chorus. Its nice. I like it and I will keep it. Looks cool anyways.

But now, you will laugh some more Wazoo, but I also picked up a Big Muff Pi while I was there. I know, I am crazy, but everyone likes to get a bit dirty sometimes, even 40-somethings like myself. I like this pedal as you can dial in just a touch of dirty fuzz, but still keep the bass sounding like a bass.

The setting I like is using the dry mode. In this setting, with the volume at minimum you hear your bass like it is normal. Then when you turn up the volume it starts adding some dirt to the dry signal. I don't use too much, just a bit. I think this will come in handy for some songs. Gives an angry sound  without taking away too much from the original Music Man signal:).

But I am sure for those of you with Psychology Training, you probably are thinking "Hmmm...this sounds like a classic case of Cognitive Dissonance Theory"

Yes, people seem to say good things about the EBS stuff. I will keep my eyes peeled for a used one.

i'm not a big chorus guy but when I feel like sounding like New Order era Hook (and I still need to get a sillhouette baritone for that) I usually go for my DOD chorus or my effecton.
The effectron goes in the parallel effect loop on my mesa bass 400. The DOD I put on the input. I think some effects just dont work in the effect send. Impedances are different as are levels. Though of course this will vary with the amp.
EH stuff seems more sensitive to impedance than most pedals. I think part of the sound of EH stuff is that its not terribly clean, and the line between not clean and totally farty is a thin line indeed!
I also think some effects dont do well if you are running you Musicman EQ on the bolder side.

Maybe. I am quite surprised how much I am enjoying the Bass Big Muff Pi. When I play the bass without the band my other band members say "oh, it sounds better without the Big Muff. But when we play certain songs, they like it with a bit of Big Muff. Good example is American Woman. Since we only have one guitarist (This song really needs at least two guitars), adding a big of distortion makes me sound like both a bass and a rhythm guitar. The "Dry" setting is the best. Here we hear mainly the proper Music Man Sterling bass, but then dial in a bit of distortion on top. Never too much.

Again, this pedal was a pleasant surprise.

Never had much dealing with that effect to comment, i used the Boss OBD-3, thats got a lot of range an can be used as a booster for the parts that you need to be heard in to a heavy drive with pretty much everything in between, can Imagen that you have tried one at some point (who hasn't), those are the main two pedals that i used an about the only two (but there are more kicking about that rarely see the light of day, they are addictive an fun :p) glad your happy with it.

Indeed I have tried the Boss as well as others. Again, what I like most is the ability to blend a dry signal with some overdrive spice. This pedal still lets my Music Man sound come through and I still sound like I am playing a bass.

So Chorus and Big Muff I have...now whats my next pedal???

I tried a couple of octave pedals....did not like the sound.

Bass synth or envelope filters...now that is interesting. But I have to know when and where to use these effects. I have a pretty good idea when to use the two pedals that I have.

What do you know about Bass synth and envelope pedals, Danny?

With the bass synth i did have a Boss SYB-3 and i couldn't do a thing with it, maybe i just didn't spend enough time with it but it was defiantly to far out for me it, (did exactly what it said on the tin an turned your bass sound into a synthesizer) try one out in a shop an see for yourself but i couldn't think of a use for it. Envelope filters on the other hand are great fun, used sparingly they are effective and you don't have to spend a lot of cash to get a half decent one, again all down to what, ware an when you going to use it.

When do you use your envelope filter Danny?

Not very often :p ,
Can get some great sounds out of it (think 80s funk etc) have a go an see what you can do with it, last time i used an envelope filter was when doing a cover of "ugly kid joe - same side" on the intro.
