I come to you guys because I love this place. There is no other forum where I feel such comradery.

I need a new head. I have some amps that I use, but I want a flagship head.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Mark V but I am concerned with the reliability issues of the first run. Then I thought I should just get the amp I have always wanted and pull the trigger on the Shiva, but I need my amp to go full metal and I dont like dirt from pedals. Then I thought about just settling for a Screamer 50 combo for the time being because it will go from clean to metal, but I dont think I would be happy. To throw a wrench in the works, I do like the Roadster and I know it's solid as a rock, but I think I like the Mark gain a bit more.

What do you guys think?

I've played the V but not too long so I'm not sure what all it can do. It did sound good though. I ended up getting a 112 Electra Dyne because it was less expensive and just sounded great. I've had mine for about 6 months without any issues so whatever you decide best of luck to you!

I am realy enjoying my JVM Marshall head at the moment. Check em out. I also realy liked the sound of the JSX Peavey and the EVH head too. Go play em all and let your ears decide!!!

I think you should get the Mark V. You won't regret it. Had mine for a few months now with no issues whatsoever. The Channel 1 on Fat mode is super-lush, super fat clean. Best clean I've ever heard from a Mark series amp. Channel 2 in Mark 1 mode is a killer for rock & roll, and Crunch mode has a great classic crunch tone. Channel 3 in Extreme mode is, well, Extreme, while Mark IV modes and Mark IIC+ modes are killer as well. I think the only setting I haven't played with at all is Tweed mode on Channel 1. I like my cleans to be thick and juicy, and the tweed mode is too twangy for me.

Best amp I've ever owned. Beats the Bogner Uberschall hands down. I even think it beats the Ecstasy, even if only by a slim margin. The Roadster is a good amp, too, but I couldn't find tones that I liked in that amp. I've also had the pleasure of playing the Marshall JVM and it sounds like a Marshall sounds.

you're going to get a lot of different options here and it would be equal to asking what's the best EBMM. I think it's basically going to boil down to what you're trying to acheive tone wise...

I just recently purchased a new amp (Sunday) and i was saving up to ultimately buy a boogie as they are (in mosts opinion) the best of the best and very versatile. Long story short I was having some amp problems so i borrowed a CARVIN MTS 3200 212 Combo (switchable 50/100 watts) just to get buy for the weekend... and i was completely floored. This thing was a tonal monster- crystal clear Cleans and when pushed is a pretty good over the top distortion. Needless to say i tracked one down on craigslist (about 2 1/2 hours away and drove and picked it up) and that is currently my go to amp. I have a floorboard of assorted pedals (including a mesa V-twin) that i will not be using anytime soon becuase this amp for me does it all.

I'm sure i will be the only one with the Carvin card as most here are Boogie or Blackstar (and maybe a few Champ fans floating around)

but in short i would say take your favorite axe to your local shop and try them all out... if the amp speaks your language then you've got a match. Best of luck with the search.

Very true. Amp selection is always tough. I agree with Peter and say play them all and pick the one that suits you best.

Everyone's got their choice, mate. Diversity is what makes the world go 'round. Without it, we'd all be playing black and white guitars through the same amp and the same effects. The world would be a bleak, boring place. I don't like that idea, so you rock on with your Carvin amp :D

Well, I was hoping that sence I said that the Mark V is my ideal amp, that you guys could go off of that.

Budget is a good question... Tone that you like is another.

The Mark V is very versatile, you just need to spend the time with it. Tweek here, Tweek there. If you buy from GC, you will have 30 days to return it if you don't like it, so take advantage of all 30 days!!

Me, I would buy a Mojave Scorpion ;)

I was pretty impressed with the Egnater Rebel 20 head. I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet, but that's only because of fundage, and the fact that I already have a working amp.

If I had to buy a head today, it would be that one.

As I said, I'm worried about the reliability issues. If you get on the boogie board, every 5th thread is about some malfunction. I'm going to buy a Mark V, but I was thinking about waiting for the Mark V b.

I've received a few comments about me going to a Carvin... but for right now the tone (for me) is what i've been looking for. I was looking to go Boogie or even Blackstar and was blown away by the Carvin (maybe it's a fluke) but if it works it works... and i've got some money now to put towards a 2H AL so it's a win win for me :D

I dunno about ya'all but I'm all head over heels about the ELectra Dyne.

If malfunctions and problems worry you, the super simple interface of the ED might be the way to go.

It doesn't have the options and features anywhere close to a Mark series amp (it was intentionally designed not to) but it has all the tones. Everything from vibrant cleans to searing leads.

I LOVE THAT AMP.
