those are cool Slav... I would get one if I wasn't GASing for a 2HB Al.

Also, what exactly is an Axis EX... they have a pretty cool looking Green one on the site... can't help it, I like Green.

I think that they are only made for the Asia market and they are made to look like the EVH's:

MM90 Spalted, thank you.

I'm confused. MM90 Floyd Spalted Maple AL........ Is that what I'm hearing?

Personally, I like the spalted maple. I had been considering getting my Sub-1 done with a spalted maple top, but decided that I wanted to do the whole thing myself.

Hmmmmm that top on a SSS Al with no pickguard, rosewood neck but maple fingerboard, and piezo and a floyd.

(hahahaha)

Pretty guitars but ... and forgive my ignorance on the topic ... isn't spalted maple essentially rotten wood, and as such, it would realize a lower density, i.e. pretty but not tonefull, even if just a venier?

Genuine question, please don't flame me.

For the guitars, it was only the Floyd Rose Axis with humbuckers, no super sports or MM90's. For the Stingrays, all 3-band EQ w/ 1 humbucker. A mix of rosewood and maple on the fingerboards. Plan a vacation to Japan and you can find one at Ikebe Gakki Shibuya, Ishibashi Gakki, Ikebe Gakki Revole, and Music Land Key. Unless they've sold out already.

The first one is deffinetly right up my alley. I would love to grab me one of these but like busboy stated you cant buy one on the blind as the wood patterns run so differently. But that first one would look great next to my natural flamed maple top.

I'm not at all an axis guy, but if there ever was a BFR Pet in spalted, I'd bought it even from Japan. Marvellous.

Just Google'd 'Spalted Maple':

'Spalted maple is maple wood with dark veins caused by a pattern of rot or bacteria in the wood. Once stabilized, this wood is very decorative as it often looks like a pen and ink drawing through the wood.'

.....nothing about affecting the density at all......

Wow, I never saw the photo above, but you know what he freaky thing is? I own that Axis! However, what you see above has a maple fretboard, but before it came to me the neck was replaced with a roasted maple neck with ebony fretboard (and it got gold hardware and gold top pickups). Look closely at the figuring on the body -- same top!

Here is Sterling playing it with its original neck (and you can see the HD-410 cab that's the "backdrop" in the above photo is to the right next to Sterling -- I think from the same set of photos). Look closely at the figuring on the body -- same top!

And while we're at it, since the name of this thread is about Spalted Maple :
