i bought a Peavey many many many many years ago and it was far from anything enjoyable. I actually had to send it back 4 times because the trem kept breaking... finally i got sick of returning it and smashed it out in the street in front of my house after it broke the last time... (TRUE STORY) :)

i was probably 13-14 and had worked all summer to buy a new guitar and had about 400-500 to spend (so it wasn't high end- but still for a 13-14 year old thats a lot) and the posts holding the trem kept breaking the wood so i would return it... 4 weeks later i would get a new one... i'd play it for a week or two and then it would break... and went through the cycle 4 times and i remember playing in my room and it broke again... and i remember dropping the forbidden f-bomb, walked very quickly down the hall, out the door, down the drive way to the street where i proceeded to "relic" the heck out of the guitar into a Pete Townsend submission and then threw it in the garbage...
so i'm not fond of Peavey...

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
I have a great suggestion - you already like/love your purple Axis so, for the price of the new EVH Wolfgang why don't you just buy two Axis guitars! Or how about buying an Axis and the new HH AL (it has Axis pickups)! Makes sense to me...

Just a thought:rolleyes:

this video makes me want an axis pretty badly
obviously the video is advertising the amp played, but seriously, that amp would sound a lot worse if it was played on a different guitar, its quite a biased test-run of the amp i think :)

I've played the Fender EVH and it is a nice guitar. I prefer the Axis but if you can try both yourself. Or maybe you could take a chance and buy a Wolfgang because you could always sell it.

If you have the coin why not go for an Axis BFR.

one thing to establish, is how heavily do you have your heart set on a floyd rose bridge? wolfgangs only offer floyds, whereas the axis series has hardtail, vintage tremolo and floyd.

I tried 3 new Wolfgangs and thought they were ok but vastly overpriced for "branded" parts and i thought the neck was a bit of a rip off. 2 piece with a birdseye fretboard is a joke at that price.

You really don't know what you are getting as everything is branded, it is the same with the previous wolfgang. Take a "USA" guitar and put a cheap asian floyd copy on it and put another name on it to hide then ramp up the price. I mean what other parts did they do this with? I expect similar goings on with the new one also.

It sounded ok though, the pickups seemed quite good and it played nice but it was nowhere near as good as my Axis. I am not saying that because i am biased but I was giving it an unbiased review with my eyes open hoping it to be at least comparable to my Tobaccoburst but it wasnt. Also not keen on the quilt tops on these, look odd.

For the money I would go with an Axis or a BFR or even one in the for sale thread.
Theres a new wolfy coming out but its not made in the USA.

Get an Axis and never look back. I havent.

A lot of different people and a lot of different opinions. One of my old roomies was a die hard EVH fan, so when the fender EVH Wolfgang's were produced and received so many positive reviews he ended up buying one.

To set the record straight, it is not by any means a "bad guitar" because its a well made instrument. It plays well, and it screams like a guitar for EVH should. But to be honest, the branding and name sake makes the guitar just so impractical. (Cost/Function ratio)

What I really loved about the Axis, and what eventually drove me to trade in my JP for the 25th, was the body styling and the pure functionality of the instrument. EBMM's don't cost extravagant prices for the sake of individuality or exclusiveness. They cost as a quality of their instrument should, and the quality happens to be outstanding.

My roomie ended up keeping the Wolfgang despite my advice. He's an EVH super-fan and having it means something to him. Doesn't mean it's like that for everyone. But let it be a lesson to some, it's a case queen, and seriously expensive show piece at that.

Bang for the buck, its not even a contest, and as the cliche might suggest "bargain" there is some serious quality going into an instrument priced at this level.

My opinion is perspective, the only true advice I can give is to play both and to see which one suits your style better, but with the AXis you get the option of:

Axis
Axis Super Sport
Axis Super Sport MM90
BFR Axis

Those are some serious options that Wolfgang can't touch. That's not opinion, that's just a fact.

I'm an early fan of the EBMM EVH and it's my may axe for 16 years now so my opinion may be partial !
The EBMM is a monster of tone and quality wise it's more than great !
The peavey was B... S... ! quality and tone wise, PUs were arsh, wood and trem were cheap and the neck was rough!
The Fender/EVH is better than the peavey but it's still far from the EBMM tone wise. The PU output is too high and the neck shape is far from the one on the EBMM which is perfect to me.
Finally the Fender EVH is way over priced for the value !
So go for an Axis or a used EBMM EVH if you want a real great axe !

You own an Axis so you know what their like. I’ve owned 4 and keep comin back for more, their that good.

For the price of an EVH you could almost get 2 Axis’s, or a BFR Axis or a mint EBMM EVH.

Let's keep the bashing of other manufactures to a minimum ... that said, coming to the EBMM forum, I think you know what answer you're going to get to the question ;)
