I took a gamble because I couldn't find any of these locally to try. This guitar has got some killer tone:

I'm still getting used to the neck. I've been playing Les Pauls almost exclusively since 1993 and my main stage guitar is a goldtop '57 RI with a huge neck...but this EBMM may see time for the 1/2 step down material.

Anyway, so far so good! I'd be real interested to try a Morse next.

Thanks fellas.

Mine is opaque black, but should I still assume that it's basswood with a maple cap? It's got a growl that my other guitars don't have. Never had a basswood before.

There is a local guy who has the yellow/gold/honey quilt top version with a Floyd. $800 seems like a really good price ... I think I'm all guitar-ed out for awhile though.

Oh one other thing: I've been playing the Axis and a Hamer Californian around the house a lot this week. I hadn't picked up my Les Paul since our show last weekend but I took it out of the case today. The neck felt COMICALLY huge!!! It's weird how quick you can start to get used to something ... keeping in mind that I've played the Les Pauls for 17 years and the large-necked Historics for nearly 10.

I actually just got done reading some old threads. I guess it's not a Sport, it's a '98 from around a transition period where the pickguard was offered on the flat black. It sounded like they didn't make too many this way.

From where I'm sitting it seems as though it's probably not all that valuable, but it's somewhat unusual. I know it caught my eye! I'd consider another if I saw one of the orange maple tops with binding. I'm a sucker for orange...

Nice one and welcome.
I too, played a Les Paul from 1973 - 2005 and can longer get on with it since I got my first EB guitar.

This guitar feels great--better and better the more I play it. I was a fool not to pick up the $800 maple top Axis on the local Craigslist.

Would like to find a Morse Y2D. I think that would make a great do-it-all stage guitar.
