While my maple neck Axis Super Sport is my 'A' guitar, I definitely prefer the feel of my rosewood Silhouette (standard) neck.

Aside from the width at the last fret, # of frets, and fingerboard....both necks seem to be identical (not sure why the Silo neck feels much better..but it does).

I'm a very low-tech guy -- so is swapping the necks on these guitars a tough job?...or can I just unscrew and screw? I'm mainly concerned with how the Axis will turn out.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

The job isn't tough, it is mpossible - the Silo neck has 2 more frets and is 1/16" wider at the heel. The Axis neck is 2 3/16" wide at the end, and the Silo is 2 1/4" wide at the heel. Even if they were the same width the Silo neck is longer as measured from the nut to the heel - it would throw off the scale and never intonate (the Silo neck would be too long on the Axis and the Axis neck would be too short on the Silo).

In terms of shape, the Axis neck is actually a bit deeper than the Silo neck so they will feel different. Also, the Axis neck shape is assymetrical - it is "fatter" on the bass side than the treble side while the Silo neck is a symmetrical "C" shape.

You can swap an Axis neck and a Luke neck - same # of frets (22) and same width at the heel.

Anyone know where I can buy a rosewood fingerboard neck for my axis? Checked ebay and googled it...but no luck.

You do see necks very occasionally for sale. I picked up 4 of them from eBay the other year. Gradually sold them off. But could be quite a goose chase.
