This is my first post on this forum! I searched for information pertinent to my question, but found nothing more recent than 2004.

I have a Stingray 5 piezo, and I would like to change the pickguard from white to a tortoise or other darker color. This will require changing the pickup cover from white to black if it's going to look right.

Are pickup covers available, and if so, where? I've been able to find nothing via Google.

Thanks, All!

My 'ray is only a year old, so it's got the new style pickups with the "ears" and four screws to mount/adjust.

Thanks, All!

Those covers I believe are Glued on and you'll probably ruin the Pickup removing it,
I'd just Buy another 5.

Are you sure you have a white pickup cover now? I have never seen a white pickup cover on the new style pickups. I have only seen black on the new style pickups. I have white on a couple of my older 5 strings, but not with the new ones. If so, has the pickup cover been painted? Did you buy the bass new?

There are many people who would be interested if there were.

I could be just being forgetful too as I have just returned home from working all night on a project.

Kirby, you are correct. I was mentally picturing making an adjustment on my HH. My fretlees 5 does in fact have three adjustment screws, and no ears. And it's white. And it hasn't been painted.

Sorry, my bad!

This may be an easier fix then since we know black ones were made. I would just keep watching Ebay or post in the wanted section here and maybe someone would trade. I honestly cannot remember if these were glued on or not like Musicman Nut said. Easy enough to find out, just loosed the three screws and carefully wiggle the cover to see if it moves. By all means do not force it.

Maybe someone who is by there basses can comment if they were glued in or not and you can get the answer without taking the pickup out. If it is removable, you could paint the cover black. Make sure to prep it properly so to make the finish last as long as possible.

Good luck!

I'm in the process of doing this right now with my White SR5-H. It has a white p/u cover that needs to be changed to match the new p/g I have for it. In order to do so, I have to replace the entire p/u with a new one that has a black cover on it. As mentioned above, you can't change the cover of the SR5 p/u because they are glued on. However you can change the cover on a SR4 p/u because they're screwed on making them easily changeable.

I'm waiting to hear back from Customer Service to see if I can buy a replacement p/u from them with a black cover on it and if I have to return the existing p/u to them.

Okay, thanks everyone. I've sent an email to MM customer service to confirm what you've shared. I think if it's not a simple procedure to swap them out I'll just leave the bass as is. Or possibly get an antique pearl pickguard to soften the look a little bit.

I have an SR5 and I changed from a white pup cover to black. There is a silcone or glue bead that will need to be scored, then, you need to remove the two inner most screws underneath the pup and the cover will come off.

You need to be careful, but it can be done. FWIW, my SR5 is a 2007.

Of course, ordering another SR5 is always an option.

Good luck...
