Twisted neck on AX40

Not sure if this is the proper sub forum for posting this, but I was playing a Sterling AX40 at GC today, and was thinking about takin it home when I noticed the neck was seriously twisted clockwise at the nut. The GC guy adjusted the T-rod (obviously bowed up) and added some relief, but the twist didn't come out at all. Was surprised it played so well in that condition. Also, surprised it made it thru QC like that.
The GC guy said they usually don't get more in until they sell the one they have, can't picture them selling that one to anybody tho. Guess I'll hold out/save up for an Axis. Hopefully it was a lemon. I would've got a pic, but my new phone doesn't have a camera.

Pretty sure the twist was due to the t-rod being too tight as it was bowed up pretty good. I think the GC dude was going to give it a couple of days to see if it would straighten out before deciding whether to re-hang it. I'll PM Pat if he doesn't post on this thread today, thanks for the heads up.

If a neck is bowed up (concave) there is too much relief and the truss rod needs to be tightened.
If there is a back bow (convex) then the truss rod needs to be slackened.

when your dealing with wood, sometimes the wood just has a mind of its own and does things like twist and freak out. Sometimes it's mis adjusted at the store. could have been exposed to adverse weather/humidity conditions.

We do not pass necks that are twisted. All we can do is inspect it before we ship it. If it looks good at the inspection stage it gets passed and shipped to the store. We have several techs that I oversee and we spend a lot of time making sure everything is right.

To date after selling alot of guitars and basses since last year, we have had a relatively small number of necks come back for replacement.

I understand your intentions are good, next time, just PM me or email directly. Starting a thread like this doesn't really help. It just makes people think all of our guitars are like this and I can confidently say that they are not.

If anyone can tell us how we can predict what a neck will do after it leaves our hands, please contact me and I will give you a job and pay you a lot of money.
