Question re discontinued finishes

Hello All!

I have heard that certain finshes for Stingrays and Sterlings are "discontinued," but I've never seen a definitive list, nor am I sure what this means. Do these colors ever get rotated back into production? Are they available on a special order basis?

The reason I ask is that I saw a used SR4 at Bass Northwest in "autumn redrise" that I thought was the coolest finish I'd ever seen on a bass. I'd love to have it on a Stingray or Sterling 5. Any chance that my dream could ever come true?

That one's been gone a while now. My experience has been that once they're gone, they're gone. Autumn Redrise was hard to find even when it was current!

The reason finishes typically get discontinued is because they don't sell well. That decreases the likelihood that they'll ever come back, although it has happened (I'm thinking of the blue dawn LE from a couple of years ago, which was available for several months). Finishes that are not in the current rotation cannot be special ordered.

That is a fact... I am going with the one in one out theory now so the Vintage Burst Stingray with BFR Rosewood neck got shipped out yesterday. It was that one or the 30th Anni and i decided the 30th will be buried with me. JOSH

that really is the nicest looking color on that bass, and im a fan of green here too. if i could get another bass id get it in that color.



as far as i know the colors dont really come back...but sometimes they do! seafoam green actually was ressurected recently. and as far as i can tell mike herrera of MXPX got seafoam green used on what appears to be an unmodded EBMM instrument. and ive seen this bass far before the classics came out i think maybe if you're big enough you can custom order one or something?

seafoam green actually was ressurected recently. and as far as i can tell mike herrera of MXPX got seafoam green used on what appears to be an unmodded EBMM instrument. and ive seen this bass far before the classics came out i think maybe if you're big enough you can custom order one or something?

Mike is a EBMM artist and has many custom StingRays. AFAIK, all of his are passive, and many of them sport a special MXPX pickguard. And AFAIK, seafoam has never before been a standard colour on Music Man basses.

It's not a concept. "re" is common shorthand for "regarding."

So how does one find out which finishes are in the current rotation? I see brand new Stingrays and Sterlings online all the time in colors that are not listed as available finishes on this site. Who's the keeper of this knowledge?!?

All that means is that those basses are new old stock. They were ordered when those finishes were available.

True. Things have been somewhat fluid lately as far as available finishes go.
