Help! Changing the neck P.U. on Axis S.S.

Hi, I'm gonna change the neck pick up on my Music Man Axis Super Sport.
I'm not sure; right now the choices would be a Seymour Duncan Jazz Model or a 59 model. I need a little more output and gain,not that much, just a little, more basses less treble, but at the moment I can't say what I prefer.
Any opinion?!

eh eh, infact I'm not sure. I'm also thinking about a new pedal for distortion...hard decision!!

I think the axis neck is possibly hotter than the jazz and 59 neck pups anyway.

I love the tone, but I'd like to have some more gain in that position. Maybe it's not a pick up problem, I was also thinking about using a different distortion pedal. I'm not that gear addicted!!
Believe me, would be easier to me than changing original parts!!

Both those pickups have less out put. The 59 will have a bit less treb and that extra bass can make it feel louder but it is not gain. Overall it will sound more loose too. The jazz has a smooth tone I could never decide if I liked it in high gain settings.

Thank you everybody, I'm happier having my Axis all original.
The other choice is changing my old preamp using the head's distortion channel with a booster...mxr zack wilde for example, and the guitar happiely remains the same!!
Maybe it's time for that

Have you tried BB Preamp to boost/saturate your head distortion?Amazing pedal.

while I have thought about doing it to one of mine, I have yet to do it. for a while I thought it was something that would get me a better or different sound .... then I switched out a coupla pedals and now run with a BB Pre in addition to Flying Dragon and Draconis .... have re-visited my amp settings for my Z amps and cab usage (112 and 210 together) .... and, now I'm happy

as for using a Duncan 59 or Jazz in place of the stock Dimarzio? prolly takin' a bit of a step backwards imho ... both good pickups, but I think you'd be losin' some ground tone-wise .... as mentioned in previous post, you might wanna give Duncan or Dimarzio a call for some thoughts/help/ideas if you are set on chasin' a very distinct sound

now, all that said, I have been intrigued by some of the Motorcity Pickups line-up .....

I put a Humbucker from Hell in a couple of Axis guitars in the Neck position and it sounded fantastic. Probably not the sound you are shooting for, but it definitely something different. Sounds like a single coil but with the output of a humbucker.

Rockbignole, I put DiMarzio PAF 36th anniversary pickups on my Les Paul. Decided to sell the LP so I put the Gibsons back in and still have the DiMarzio's.

I would love to get the Axis Super Sport neck pickup for my PRS SE24. If you want to trade or sell me your Axis neck P/U, let me know.

In my humble opinion, the DiMarzio PAF 36th anniversary p/u's are much better than the SD 59s. Even if you don't want to trade or sell me your neck p/u, give those a good look. I had an 81 Gibson LP silverburst custom and the DiMarzio's really took me back to the sound of my 81. Trully a vintage (ala sweet-child-of-mine solo) tone.
