Hi all

I know theres quite a few of you guys that use this system here on the forum.ive already posted on the TC forum itself looking for advice from other GS users.
Im thinking about getting one of these to control my rig, amp, pedals etc.i know its quite a versatile unit but my only concern is whether it can control all the channels on my amp.I recently bought a 200 watt head from the new series one from blackstar and theres a 7Din connector that screws into the back of the amp to operate the channels via the footswitch.I checked out a few videos and read about another guy on the TC forum who had to get a custom made cable to switch his channels and the conections in to the GS are stereo TRS cables i think.
Anyone know anything about this that uses this system or can users of this unit offer any advice before i pull the trigger?

Cheers,

Colin:);)

I bought mine a few days ago, and am waiting for it in the mail. Can't wait. I'm upgrading from TC G Force. G-System should be able to control the channel changing. I need it to do it on my Egnater Mod50

Switching is the one problem with the G-System. It offers 4 relays, so can only control 4 functions. I've heard of some custom cables being made, but many have been DIY.

It would be worth your time to investigate the cost of that solution as well as the other solutions out there.

You should check out the Voodoo Lab GCX and the RJM RG-16. Both would require the purchase of a controller, but I think they are very good products.

Theres actually a midi connection on my amp and it has 4 channels so if the GS can control those 4 then im happy and i can add what ever fx i want from the unit itself or external pedals.

Col, it should be really easy to hook it up. I tried to download the Blackstar manual, but it didn't work for me.

Anyway, I did see that it (Blackstar) was MIDI compatible for channel changing. The G system has a MIDI out, so in theory, it's dead straight forward to hook the two together.

Not heard anything official about this year's forum bash, but fingers crossed!!

If you can control your amp with MIDI, that's DEFINITELY the way to go. G-System will do that nicely, but you'll have to program it yourself.

Colin.

I used to run a g-system and used it's midi to control my amps channels via an axess electronics cfx4. Quick and easy to programme and mario will make a custom cable for you.

Cheapest option I found and worked perfectly. Curently running one with my nova system through my boogie mkIV.

Whos Mario and why do i need to get a custom cable made as all i need is to buy a midi cable?

I have a g system and my peavey ultra plus changes with a 7 pin din connector and I just made a cable trs to 7din and it works wonders. You need to find out which channels are connected to each pin then attach said pins to either tip ring or sleeve. For example (if you know anything about the ultra plus) there is a clean channel and 2 gain channels. The clean is the default on the ground so the clean is attached to the ground on the 7 pin and the other two are attached to the ring and sleeve then all you do is scroll through the relay setting until you find the one that changes the amp.

Nice! I've heard good things about that amp.

Read over the manual a bit. All you will need to control it from the G-System is a standard MIDI cable. Then you'll have to program the G-System to control it properly. Should be pretty easy if that's your only MIDI device.

Colinboy,

All these effects and midi?

I thought you played guitar!

Midi is for girls and keyboard players!

After spending plenty of dosh on 2 very nice guitars and a great amp you want to go and ruin it all with "girly" effects.

My set-up:- Guitar - Wah - Blackstar HT Duel - Blackstar Artisan 30H.

Yours should be:- Guitar - Wah - Big Daddy Blackstar 200

Sort your life out!

(p.s. I actually know Colinboy, he's a decent chap and this is just a chance for me to have pop at him)
