Question Low Action?

today i came home from guitar center really happy that the guy in the rumble room did a free setup on my neck and action. he put the action really low and i loved it. it was great when i played it through an ampeg combo amp at their place. when i got home though and plugged it into my rumble 15 i could hear the fret buzz on my amp and i was mad. is there a way to have really low acion with the little to no buzz at all?

The obvious answer is to play lighter. Other than that, you can go to a slightly heavier gauge string so there will be more tension.

well i already went from power slinky's to regular coated slinky's. im not liking them much though because they sound too trebly for me i shouldve gone for the ones without coating. plus i play both pick and fingers. i guess i can say i play mildly aggressive because i like the growl and attack and punch. i do it without thinking.

You'll probably have to live with higher action if you continue playing the way you do. I have to keep my action a little on the high side because I have a tendency to really dig in with my fat little fingers

damn but its so comfy playing aggresively now. and low action rocks. playing softer wouldn get me the growl and attack i like right? my tone so far is a lot of bass with mid treble in there.

I think if you play the way you like, you can get over the action. Or you can always crank your amp... Or get a more powerful one to compensate for lighter playing

i mean i raised it a bit earlier. just so that i can go to drop D and back to standard. but i guess a powerful amp could do. rumble 15 is too weak for a stingray XD

far too weak, you can get some aggressive tones without digging in.

i understand. but i guess something better and wont hear the buzz if i lower the action anymore would help. ill think about it. i'm gonna work on playing a little softer.

Raise the saddles just enough to remove the buzz.
Are you sure it's not the amp's structural buzzing tht you are hearing?

i managed to get it at a good comfortable position right now. although idk what is meant by the amps structural buzzing.

The amp may be buzzing because it's a 15 watt practice amp. Structurally, there's probably not a whole lot of internal bracing inside the box, and running a hot active signal from the SR into said practice amp may simply be overwhelming the little bugger.

I took my JP6 from 2002 to Joe Glaser here in town (where EVERYONE takes their guitars to this guy - and people ship their guitars to him from all over the world to be set up) and he asked me "how low you want it?" and I said "As low as you can get it" thinking ok it'll be a little lower... HA! All I can say is HOLY ****E! The action is so low it's unbelievable and doesn't fret out or buzz ANYWHERE. He's got some million dollar digital plek machine or something that he uses which digitally does everything... It was about $250 but that was a fret dressing, plek and setup so it CAN be done. It's a legato dream come true... I just wish I had done it like 4-5 years earlier when the frets really needed it.
