I've been using the Future Sonics Atrio for over a year now. They are a little cheasy looking but the sound is great. When I bought these I was looking for something high end dual driver. I was told to give these a try as they were highly recommended for bassist and drummers and if I wasn't satisfied I could return for full refund. Needless to say I've used them ever since.

Well, sorry to interrupt guys, really lovely chat You have here, but my opinion is that for live bass players none earphones are right!

Bass players should use earphones only for a studio recording purpose, or home practice! ;)

Properly choice & setup of rig gear should be enough for decent live performance! :)

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. The benefits they offer in hearing protection alone is enough for me to use them. I have much less hearing fatigue and I'm able to mix what I'm hearing the way I want.

I prefer to use a bass rig and a wedge and NOT use the inears...BUT the reality in the professional world is that more and more it is becoming necessary to use in ears for production or isolation reasons. I HATE that it is this way but if I want to work I have to bite the bullet and use ears when necessary. I figured that if I HAD to have them I would have the best I could get and that is why I have my Future Sonics Customs. When we do fly dates or festivals it is really nice to come in with our in ear rig and have our sound be consistent to us instead of having to be at the mercy of the monitor crew working the show. Depending on the company doing the production the backline can be great or suck, not to mention the TOTAL disregard for proper monitors sometimes. I LOVE to hear myself playing bass through a big PA BUT I also sing and need to hear the other instruments to play effectively as part of a band and that is where the ears provide the consistency necessary to make that a lot easier to do...

Peace,

T

The church I play at does not allow live amps on stage, they have Aviom personal monitors, so I don't have a choice. My preference is live amps with everyone playing at a sensible level but that is a scenario that is hard to find.

At church I am currently using a $20 pair of Koss lightweight headphones with titanium drivers. They are plenty loud and can handle all bass I can throw at them, they work fine for me. I recommended them to the other bass player at my church and he is also very happy with them. They don't provide any isolation but our stage volume is quiet enough where we don't need to have them very loud.

I have been thinking of investing in some good in-ear monitors that can handle the bass, I may give those Future Sonic Altrios a try since there are players here that seem to like them and they are under $200.

I use UE Triple Fi 10's ....I have learned to love them...I am not permitted to even bring my head anymore...I am forced to run direct. I HATE it, but I Hate it much less with my Triple's...:) UE has EXCELLENT Customer SErvice as well...had a problem with my monitors well beyond the warranty...they sent new ones...no problem!

I'm not sure exactly how much db's they cut but they do cut the outside noise pretty well for me.

Maybe Tommix can help more than me if he compared them to other models...

ive been playing out enough lately to build an interest in ear monitors. im assuming you also need a transmitter and receiver for these. anyone have recommendations for that part of the setup?

I also go through and aviom and into (get ready) some $15 skull candy in ear phones. I'm on the guitar side, but the clarity and isolation are great (to me, anyways). My bass player uses bose noise cancelling headphones.

update

I went to an audiologist, got molds made and had a pair of Westone UM56 tips made to fit the Shure SCL5s

The result was dramatic

Isolation wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better
Fit super comfortable, doesn't move

And the bass is infinitely better. I can almost "feel" the bass as my head resonates

Much better way to hear my Musicman

Used a (properly hooked up) Aviom this last Sunday for the first time. Also used my SR5 for the first time on stage. I have a pair of SkullCandy 'buds and they really produced the low end quite well. I'm running the rig through a SansAmp BDDI (close to their SVT setup, volume at 25%) and it sounded great in the in-ear.

I DID boost bass on the Aviom controller and cut the treble just a bit. :)

I got the above custom ear molds about a year and half ago..and I'm so happy with them...they are the dual driver model..w/ a sure cheap psm200 and it works great..has never failed me!

the audio-ologist(sp?) cost 20 bucks to pour the molds..which you send to the above compay for the build of the in ear monitors...
