I am NOT a Seymour Duncan fan at all. Nor am I a fan of Line 6. But I gotta say that sounded really good. It almost restores my faith in Duncan and digital amps (almost).

Drop C# is a cool tuning. But I think drop Db is much heavier sounding!

Sure can! Thanks!

My Silhouette Special (.010-.052 Slinkys, as mentioned) is set up with a stock Duncan JB and a single 250K volume pot. I normally play in Eb or Drop C# tuning.

I plugged that guitar directly into a POD 2.0 with a Planet Waves cable, and ran the stereo headphone output of the POD into the stereo line input on my iMac. I was using the Brit Hi Gain amp model with the boost on, and the Marshall 4x12 Greenback cab emulation. The gain was on about 6 for the first clip and 5 for the second. I bypassed the effects so all I got from the POD was the basic tone.

I balanced out my levels so it wouldn't be clipping and then just recorded it straight onto the Mac with Garageband '09 (v. 5.1). I added a little dash of reverb and a tiny bit of compression on both tracks just to smooth things over, and also put a little delay on the second one. No EQ or anything like that, though.

Exported as an MP3 to iTunes and posted on Soundclick. Voila!

Cool dude, thanks for typing that up. I need to spend more time with my Line 6 gear. Never been 100% happy, but a lot of others are getting killer results. Good to know.

I like Duncan and DiMarzio about equally.

I don't think I'd use a Line 6 amp live, but I like their pedals and their studio stuff.

I eventually wanna get a 7 string. You know, the ones with the low Cb string. :D

Love the tones you're getting, especially in the second clip.

I think Garageband is a great tool...I use a Line6 UX2 with my iMac and Gearbox for guitar tones.

Finally, I'm really wanting to look into getting a Silo next since my recently acquired Axis quickly became my go-to guitar, even after mostly playing Les Pauls for years and years.

Thanks guys... much appreciated. I really love my new computer. It's not a Pro Tools rig but it's so easy to make quickie little demos and such. You'll be hearing a lot more in the future, for sure.

That's a JB alright!

At the moment I only have one guitar loaded with one of those puppies, but they used to be my go to pickup. Currently I wire my Jeff Beck straight to the output of the guitar, I used to use them all with 250k pots with Duncan SSL-5s in the middle and neck, but I found that the low value pot made the pickup lose a little bit of character and made the top end a bit less defined.

Great pickup, great guitar, awesome clips!

Thanks, man!

Out of curiosity, what's your go-to bridge humbucker these days?

That's a tricky one... I am sort of between them at the moment

Like I said, I love the Jeff Beck, and that would probably still be the closest thing to a go to bridge bucker I have. I am sorta all over the map, from DMZ I love the Tone Zone, Evo 2 and Norton. I had a brief but intense love affair with the EMG 85, paired with a 60A or 2 SAs (I'm a long time EMG hater, but I just got a Mesa Lonestar, and for some reason EMGs just LOVE that amp)

So at the moment my #1 has a Tone Zone/Breed Neck combo, which is workin just fine. I am currently in the market for a #2 (looking like it will be either a Silo Special or a Fender American Special Strat) that will probably end up with a Jeff Beck and a couple of SSL-5s (been too long since I've had an axe with some good single coils)

I like Duncan about as much as I like DiMarzios, which is a good amount. I really like the Evo neck and bridge and the FRED. I've got an Air Norton and an Air Zone waiting for a pickguard from Chandler at the moment.

I like EMG85's as well, had one with a 60A (neck) in a Les Paul and it kicked ass. The SA's sound great too... at least they do in the Luke! :D

I had a parts Strat for a brief time with a JB in the bridge and an SSL5 in the neck. That was a GREAT combo for sure. The SSL5's had enough output and punch to hang with the JB, and they were super ballsy and fat but still had that beefy clang you should get from a Strat pickup.

The SSL-5 is one of the only single coils I have ever really bonded with, they sound as fat as a humbucker, but still have the EQ curve, tone and basic response as a single coil. The SA is the only pickup that does the same thing, I really wanna try a 85x/SAx/SAx combo, if what they say about the X series is true, that would be the perfect set of pickups for me.

I have never tried the Air Zone, but I would like to at some point, I worry that it would just sound like a neutered Tone Zone. Also the AT1 is high on my list of pickups to try, it has very similar specs to the Air Zone, but has slightly more top end, which intrigues me

I cant recommend the Air Zone enough! It is very versatile and has a nice fat tone with great clarity. I think it sounds even better than the Tone Zone. I prefer it also to the Evo2 which I have as well. I like the fact that it is a medium output pickup, so you can hear the guitar itself and no muddiness to be found whatsoever. Of course it probably sounds different in other guitars, so I am speaking in terms of it being in the Silhouette Special. The AT-1 seems similar and I will probably be installing that in my 20th Silo.

It`s been two days where i installed the Seymour Duncan JB at my Silo Special !!

The sound is amazing !!I realy love this humbucker !!

I prefer the OEM 250K pots than the 500K i had at my Strat.

Many thanks to B2D for the help !!

FYI - Seymour himself, recommends 250k pots with a JB. That's what Jeff Beck's Tele-Gib has. A lot of players will install a JB and hate it; then they change their pots from 500k to 250k and have a total change of heart....
