Some buddies and I are going to be doing some acoustic sets (with some very light amplification on the acoustic at times). I have a non-EBMM Acoustic Bass guitar that I can use for a while longer but I would like to replace. I kind of made a pledge to myself that all my basses would be EBMM's from now on, but, no EBMM acoustic basses available. So, wondering if there are any plans for an acoustic EBMM Bass in the near future (1-2 years - I can hold out about that long). If not, then it will be a non-EBMM purchase.

Anyway, if anyone in the know can shed some light, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

i hate to say it cuz i love my balls but, seeing as how,we knuckleheads have no EBMM ABG to add to our arsenal..........i do find the ABG that i do have,(non EB of course)......sits in any acoustic mix just fine............albeit,a pick is needed...........

throw down a campfire and some wobbly pops and........i'm in baby.

i think i'll end at that.

I own an acoustic/electric 5-string which was a gift from my parents that I always use at home when learning material, "brushing up" on a tune or for playing along with CD's. At the time that they bought it for me we were doing an "unplugged" gig. I highly recommend owning one.

It would be great if EBMM made one!

After owning various ABG's, one thing is universal...you still can't get by without an amp if you're playing against two acoustic guitars and even a light drummer using brushes. And was getting tired of my arm reaching so far around the body, that just has to be contributing to carpal tunnel.
So since an amp is still needed, I'm starting to think those thin hollow body "ABG's" are the way to go for a design.

A EBMM acoustic?

I think thats not going to happen.

Producing an acoustic instrument is a whole different story

And EBMM is established enough to NOT do everything but rather to focus on what they are really good at. And thats quite alot already.

Ferrary doesn't produce 4WD-Pickups.
Because they are still humble enough to realise, that somebody else ist doing it pretty well already.

Better be top in one thing than average in everything.

BP made one of his torture "Heh Heh you should see what Dudley and I have been messing with" comments in an Earthwood thread a couple of weeks ago. So, never say never, but you figure best case scenario is a year away. If at all, of course.

I suggest better to buy a decent StingRay with piezo, turn balance pot all the way to the piezo! Cut some highs, boost some bass..., and here it is, perfect acoustic bass tone! :)

Not even remotely close, actually. You'd have a hell of a time finding an extension cord long enough to play it at a campfire, too.

Why does everyone seem to think piezos magically alter physics?

Well I hope they bring the Earthwoods back.....so everyone can hear what I hear.....There is no finer ABG as far as tone and boomy bottom end you get from an Earthwood in my Opinion of course.

Because you touch yourself at night. :D

It's true. Piezos don't do that acoustic thing. And acoustics don't sound like uprights. Therefore piezos don't sound like uprights. I have a piezo equipped Bongo, and upright and acoustic bass and they're all SO different. Piezo does make it funkier and adds a certain phatness (especially using the neck single coil...ohhhh yes)

I would be interested in something like this from MM simply because I've never encountered a good one.

I heard one of these rare beauties on youtube and the tone is amazing! Where do I sign on to the "Reissue the Earthwood" petition?

But the real question is: if EBMM made an acoustic bass guitar, where would they place the humbucker? :D

On the rear end of that oval shaped scratchplate that covers the soundhole of course. :D

You guys laugh, but, imagine if they find a way to invent a piezo-humbucker-bridge combo
Knowing the mad scientists at EBMM, they might come up with some wild new creation that blows us away :)

Well, from my point of view, for acoustic bass piezo is all you need, but You never know?

Just one digression kinda OT:

When I was Younger and didn't know much about Music Man basses, than I saw for the first time pre EB SR4 bass with mute pads, I thought that was kind of special pickup integrated in bridge  (please don't kill me now) and those finger-screws that are pole pieces :D
Also I thought that those 3 pot knobs are passive two volume and third passive tone control
Please forgive me, I was J. Bass player at that time! :D
