Hi - Just joined today.
Am soon looking to get my first MM guitar, but unsure which to choose.

Looking at a Silhouette Special - I've gigged Les Pauls and Strats for many years, and am now looking to retire both, and get ONE guitar which will do both sounds, with a trem, and maple board.

Could anyone please advise me which MM guitar might substitute both LPs and Strats ?
Many thanks

Hello and welcome

The Morse signature model is a good compromise because you have 2 humbuckers and 2 single coils. The Morse is the most versatile guitar I know : you can play country or heavy metal ... you just have to find the good pickup configuration.
But if you want a maple fingerboard ... :( well it's not an option with the Morse.

The ASS MM90 (Axis Super Sport with Music Man P90) is also a good choice. When I bought mine, I was thinking that the P90 was just for "old stuff" rock. What an idiot I am . The only thing you cannot do with the P90 is black metal ...
The P90 are really great pickups, very versatile. And you can have a maple board and a trem.

Good luck in your search

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
Welcome aboard! I would say either the Silo Special or the Axis SS. They are two totally different guitars so you would need to play them both before making your decision. Both winners though!

Good luck!

I think if you could get your hands on a MM 25th you would be very satisfied. They look awesome and play great - lots of options.

I will have to resound the sentiments as well in this order:

1. 25th w/ Maple Board and Trem.

2. ASS w/ Maple Board and Trem.

3. Silo Special HSS w/ Maple Board and Trem.

Choosing between the Silo Special and the 25th/ASS depends on how much you want to retain the single coil type sounds. Since the 25th and ASS are both HH, they will get you great twangy and punch tones but they're not true single coil. With the Silo Special you got the two single coils to retain, but have the humbucker at the bridge.

If you care more about the bucker bridge get the 25th/ASS if you need those single coil neck pup tones, get the SIlo Special.

I would have to agree that the 25th is a good compromise between the two. However if you are looking for the single coil tone in the neck position and nice Fat bridge tone, go for the Silo Special or a LUKE. You just cant go wrong with any of them. Once you get one, you will end up getting others. It's inevitable.

A 25th. Just got mine and can't rave enough about it. It can do just about anything tone -wise.

I agree with this 100%, and with what Scooby Steve says as well. I have a 25th, and I'm as big a fan of the 25th as there is, but a big part of its greatness is that it is it's own thing.

I have two HSS Silo Specials as well, and they give you real chimey/quacky single coil tones of the Strat variety, plus the humbucker for the Gibson stuff. If I had to pick the desert island guitar, I'd go with the Silo Special. The neck pickup is fantastic.

The Luke fits the bill as well, but the board is rosewood.

What Hack and Scooby said... I have the ASS, SS, and 25th but without the maple. The 25th just happens to be my favorite, but that is just my taste.

The 25th refers to the 25th anniversary model that were sold last year. The Reflex is the production version of the 25th. It is a tone monster.
