I purchased a set of 2804 Group II Flatwounds for my frettless project and decided to try them out on my 25th before putting them on the project bass.

I dont think I'll be taking them off soon.

I've only had about an hour to play on them but really like what I hear. I can't do a direct A/B comparison but the sound is more "Growlier". The sound they produce is much more versatile than I though it would be. I feel the flats react more to EQ changes than the roundwounds did. They really hav a lot of low mids. Cutting the low mids and treble just a little, and boosting the bass really gives me the sound I like.

Playing around I select the neck pickup in seriell and played the intro to "Come as you are" ... Oh yea  (Ya know your getting old when you think about the fact that that song is 19 years old).

I'll have to wait until this evening to see how they fit in the band setting but it sounds promising.

I'll have to play them for a while and then switch back to the roundwounds before I can completely commit but the combination 25th and flats is definitely worth investigating.

Well just got back from practice. Well the flats did not last it though the first song. :(

As great as they sounded at home... Within the band setting I just wasn't there anymore. They where just too smooth. i swapped them for a set of fresh standard slinkys and my baby was back :D

Now the flats will go on the fretless so I can learn new ways of aggravating our guitarists ;)

Attaboy! I didn't comment on your choice in post no.1 becasue I thought I'd let yu find out by youself instead of saying "Told ya!" I am not a fan of flatwound strings. Give me a set of zing zing #2836 any day of the week.

Yea, I know, I know... I thought it was worth a try. I actually did not think I would leave them on for practice but at home they sounded really good. In a jazz combo they would be great... but I play in a Rock/Top 40 band (Definite tendency towards rock, although our two lovely female singers make us play a few ballads :( Its a girly thing I guess)

Now I have fresh #2836's on it and it sounds soooo good. We recoded a few songs last night. If any of them turn out ok i'll post.

I'll probably regret doing this... Please remember I have not been playing bass that long.

Zombie by the D Street Band (working recording)

This is a recording direct off the mixer from last nights practice session. We've only played this song a few times so there are tones of mistakes from everyone including myself. Our band room is acoustically challenged and our sound equipment is not much better. Not to mention the bass player being technically challenged :(

Luckily none of us have too make money doing this.

You might have to turn up the bass a little to hear the 25th. Its got fresh strings and I think it really cuts though the mix well. I've only added a bit of compression to the bass track so its pretty much the raw.

And lastly I'm old enough NOT to need to fish for compliments. I just thought someone might want to here a 25th in a band setting. (Even a bad recording is better than nothing ;) )
