Oh, thank You Lord, ...I'm alive... :D

Great vintage classic tone! What is this, pre EB Stingray?

Maybe little too much bass boost, but great anyway! (listened at home through cheap 2-way Genius PC speakers)

I will check this video tomorrow at work through my TEAC studio monitors & couple of AKG's phones! ;)

It can't be a pre EB I see 3 band EQ, however it's got mutes and he is definately using them, could be an early EB strings through and all. Also the jack cord is not plugged in on the control plate.

I spy a bullet truss.

Yeah, that's why I thought about pre EB..., but I have not much experience about that matter!

Edit: ...just to add, I'm at work now and listened through Beyerdynamic DT 770 professional phones, ...it's great, not too much bass as at home on PC speakers, just great tone, maybe too muted highs, but OK!

Nice looking bass - tone is pretty good through my Bose computer speakers. I used to play that song back in the late 70's - early 80's. I got to sing the counter low-end "yeah"'s. Fun tune.

Not to be a nit-picker - but it sounds like the last note of the main verse lick is a half step high.

I've posted this vid as a reminder that... while all the new production of basses, Bongo, 25th, Sterling and Big Al, are all excellent, one must never forget where it all comes from, "the father of them all" the almighty RAY!! 4 or 5 strings doesn't matter, single H - that is the key ingredient.

Long live the StingRay!!!

+1

I saw a stage show based on classic Stax soul songs about a year ago - and the bass player used what looked like a very early white and maple board SR5H all night - and the bass sound matched the music perfectly - thumpy and vintage.
