New Bass Day! Another rare one stays in the forum

Wife and I braved the SOCAL afternoon traffic and drove 70 miles to Silverburst's place to pick up the prototype seafoam green Classic Deluxe SR4 bass that was originally bought/sold in Bass Player Live. It differs slightly from the final version in that this one came with a black pup cover although customers can purchase black pup covers for their regular production white pup Classic Dlx.

Well there is really nothing new here that forumites don't know anymore except that this thing weighs about 8 and a half pounds A feather by SR standards! I'll have to spend time with it to see what the glossy neck, 2 band eq, slab body and other retro appointments mean to a current model SR fan like myself.

Hey thanks everyone. I've been playing her all day . Yeah she is very svelte and very sexy. The paintjob is gorgeous and the hardware is flawless. But rare for a Music Man she also has a finish blemish. The forward edge of the neck pocket's paint job smeared onto the neck itself in a manner that looks like the paint wasn't quite dry when the neck was bolted on. Since I bought this used then I guess I'll just have to live with it. It will be a clue to her authenticity if she is rediscovered in someone's attic 50 years after I'm dead. Still, I was very surprised to see it on a bass that is a show piece of sorts.

The slab body, the smaller FB radius and the 2 band EQ are all non issues as far as feel is concerned. I never missed the contours, never noticed the rounder fingerboard and am quickly grasping the boost only EQ (it is fatter). The glossy neck feels different and I think I still prefer the satin wax/oil finish a bit for music that wanders all over the fretboard. For pocket playing though, the glossy is good to go.
