Hi everyone!

Im selling my lovely black Ray to make way for a new Ray. It means I can get whichever I like!

Im mainly a 4 string player....I am tempted by a Ray 5 in H or HS....which is cheaper.

BUT....I could go all out and get a Classic Series Ray 4.

It would be Powder Blue/Tort/White Pup...not sure on board material yet.

Are all the Classic Series in the UK with the deluxe figured necks? I want the really awesome neck....so if its figured...am I best getting a maple board to really show it off?

Thanks

My initial answer would have been get the Figured Birdseye with a Poly Lacquer finish. However, after having played about 6 or 7 of these now my opinion has changed. I love the way the Birdseye looks and the Poly is not sticky at all to me. WHEN I get one of these I am DEFINITELY going with a non Poly neck with some birdseye and a rosewood board. The Rosewood has a different feel and has a warmth and character to it that I really dig. I am a TOTAL Maple board guy but I think the Rosewood on these gives them another dimension that the Maple just does not have. I am not dissing the Maple at all! It has that fast attack and a punchy and tight snap to it. I feel that the Rosewood gives you a bit more warmth and depth and you can add a bit of the treble knob and give it more than enough bite to suit my needs and taste..Just my $.02!

I am waiting to find a lighter Natural with a Tort Guard and a Rosewood board and that will most likely be the only 4 I will have in my war chest....I can't wait to get another one....AND another 25th AND a Big Al....

Peace,

T

those mute pads are amazing id go for it just on those. the mute pads inspired me to buy a 120$ piece of hardware to throw on my 3eq just cause of how good it sounds with mutes. i like the unfinished neck personally, i felt like it was way faster but thats just me.

I like gloss necks and unfinished necks if im honest.....but that maple neck looks stunning.

Im going ahead with my order soon.....I would think about the Classic 5, but if im honest, if I go for a 5 Id really like that selector switch.

I might get the classic and save for a 5er....who knows.

I feel ive tried so many different 5ers and not been happy. Lakl*** had a great neck but poor QC....and expensive for what you get. Im not really into the idea of a F***** 5, the War**** 5er ive just tried was nothing like what I wanted.

I KNOW....I should have trusted EB like I did with my other basses and gone for a Ray 5. I KNOW it will be the real deal!

So...basically its:

Add flexibility and get a Ray 5 in White/Rosewood/Tort (looks awesome)

OR

Get the even more pretty Classic 4 but still not have a 5er option.

Maybe I dont even need a 5er...who knows!

if you like the classic ray 5 shape but would like pickup switching and a nekkid neck might i suggest you take a look at the 20th sr5 :)
as a bonus you get the mahogany tone block and some nicely figured flame or quilt top ;)

Even though the extra pups tempt me....im a 'classic is best' type of guy....one pup is my sweetspot if im honest. If I go Ray 5 it will be a single H I think...just nice to be able to switch single coil/para/series.

After looking at the schematics....the Ray 5 with H and S might be really really cool for that single coil near the neck...just for the fatter thump every now and then.

Hmmm!

I definitely dont want two Hs, but I might be tempted by HS.
