Is it just an illusion or is there a white Stingray with gold hardware!?!?!?!? I want it!!!!

I visited that GC last year when in NY, quite an awsome sight, and the bass sales guy is just super, he was practicaly insisting I try the 25th even though I told him I wasn't gonna buy one. And I almost bought it too!!!

Gotta go back again this year.

Wonderful selection of Ernie Balls there, obviously. That's where I got to try a Classic 4 and a Big Al for the first time, and even the Sterling way back when. I suppose I kind of take it for granted because I never found it to be all that impressive. :-D

Also got to demo a host of Markbass stuff before I bought...from somewhere else. Hey, sales tax is rough here!

Sorry, all 4sss, but I don't think the one on the bottom is candy red. IIRC it was almost a burgundy-copperish, can't put my finger on it.

I think that is the Cabernet one I just bought! Please give me all the details of your encounter with her...Please tell me she is stunning in person, has a charming personality, and weighs about 9 lbs! I would settle for anything you remember...LOL! Thanks!

Peace,

T

I'm not just saying this because you bought it, but it played the best out o the ones there. Its a real beauty in person, might have some of my fingerprints on it :)

Wowza! Now I'm upset that I didn't go to NY back in Oct. when I had the chance.

Granted, I don't think I would have ever gone back home after seeing that. Though the lack of bongo's is disappointing, it's a lot more than my local GC could/would ever stock.

Man thank you so much for that! Now the GAS is nearly driving me nuts...I am looking everywhere to find a pic!! Do you happen to remember if it was absurdly light?...:D The only thing that worries me is weight. I have a degenerative bone disease and I can't take more than about 9.5 lbs. My SR5 is 9.1 lbs and is perfect weight and tone wise. Have the Big Als always had Mahogany bodies? Is it safe to assume that this one does? I have a feeling that this one has been there for about a year if the information that I got was reliable and that makes me a bit nervous. On one hand I am thinking what is wrong with it that it sits there for a year if it is a great bass??

But then the reality is that every time I go to my GC up in Raleigh, NC I essentially setup all the Balls in the store whenever I get the chance. Because they are in such bad shape! I have played several really great Balls there after a little TLC and a quick tweak to make them PLAYABLE....I spent over 5 hours in there one day setting up about a dozen basses or so and talking to people about them. While I was doing it a guy bought an SR5 HH that I BEGGED him to try. He was playing a bunch of different stuff and heard me playing the SR5 as I was setting it up and I told him all about it and the history of the Stingray and the Music Man story and the current story with EBMM and then literally BEGGED him to play it. I mentioned that they were MADE IN THE USA and the company owner hung out on the EBMM forum and talked the customer base and he was blown away...He had NO idea....I think he played it for maybe 5 to 7 minutes and asked ME for a price on it...LOL I called the Guitar counter guy down to help him and then helped negotiate a sale for the guy and he left with the bass and an extra set of Slinkys to boot!

I am CONVINCED that IF the GC staff would just keep these setup and give the customer base a little bit of an education about EBMM they would sell a LOT more basses! EVERY TIME I go in I talk to someone and get them interested in at least trying the basses. There were several basses that have been there for a couple of YEARS that are now gone and I am pretty sure it was because I took the time to set them up when no one else would...I was in today and I am pretty sure that I sold another SR5 while I was there but had to leave before the guy made up his mind. I am headed back tomorrow and the first thing I am going to do is see if he bought the bass or not...

I REALLY HOPE HE DID! You GC guys that hang out here try and get the word out and help people buy good gear!!!

Sorry for the OT rant....

Can't wait to see this Big Al in person!! Even a picture would be great at this point!

Peace,

T
