Ordering a classic series 4 tomorrow! Advice?

Hi

I'm ordering a classic series 4 string Ray tomorrow. I'll hopefully be one of the first UK owners.

Colour is the big difficulty!

I'm going for birdseye maple neck, so with that a birdseye maple board is a must to show off that Birdseye!

Has to be tort guard really.

Stuck between powder blue and classic White. Personally I love White basses.

Does anyone have any pics of their White classic ray? What shade of White is it? I'd like the more yellowy aged White.

I'd go white. I had a white SR4 once with a tort guard and it was beautiful.

You can't go wrong with those two choices. I always like white basses, but that powder blue with tort is a cool combo too.

I like white, and so does the thread starter, but there are a gazillion white Stingrays out there. Powder blue, on the other hand will be much rarer. Go the powder blue, I say.

I've seen a white Classic Dlx in person and it is beautiful. It's not commode white nor is it creamy. Kinda in between

Thanks guys! My favourite colours with basses tends to be sunburst or White. My friend took a look and said 'you cannot go wrong with White...ever'.

Movielife - if you haven't ordered already have a word with Absolute Music (no affiliation with them except they're providing my Coral Red) - when I ordered mine they had several white on order - ETA is late April.

I've gone back and forth w/these colors but at the moment Black has been pushing the right buttons . . . with all that chrome, Black looks awesome - I'm even liking it w/Rosewood this time! Getting weak, GAS coming on.

Coral would get my vote for a color other than tobacco & black (which dominate my bass collection).

I was in the same boat as you 2 weeks ago and went with white\tort\maple. It is indeed exactly as you describe, "yellowy aged White."
All the pics I have seen of this bass, whether from message board, NAMM, retail or my own, wash the color out and make it look Olympic white. It is in fact 'aged' or 'vintage' white is how I describe it.

I'm still working on pics to capture the true color, but it's hard since it keeps looking 'Olympic' white in photos.

I initially thought this as well, but judging from the messages boards, in the case of the Classics, everyone seems to like surf green, powder blue or coral red b\c it's 'uncommon' and the 'common' finishes like black, white and tobacco are gonna the rare ones. lol.

It's like reverse in the case of the Classics. You'll see surf, powder and coral being played by everyone and black, white and tobacco, not so much!

I don't get the whole "rarity" concern about the color of the bass, unless you're buying it just to sell it down the road. Get whatever color you like best, the one that will inspire you to pick the bass up and play it!

I don't think it's that as much as playing a bass not a lot of people have. It is kind of cool to play a bass or see someone playing a bass that you don't see a lot.

However, by the way the Classics seem to be catching on, my guess is we'll see a lot of sf green, powder blue and coral red basses on your local stages within this year and going forward! So it won't be so 'rare' anymore.

Nice! Regardless of whichever finish anyone picks for their Classic, these basses play and sound great! IMHO and IME.

Mine still has some settling in to do after tweaking a bit, but it sounds great and is a joy to play!
