Rexy How true...keeping people happy is really hard. We are lucky to have a following and one that for the most part supports us. It is the same thing with the whole Fanboi thing...People who live in glass houses...They are rabid about brand X but we are Fanbois....They criticize a specific forum dedicated to a individual topic and who do they think are going there? Luke warm noncomitteds?

You can please all of the people some of the time, or some of the people all of the time.

Me, I'm working on pleasing no one all of the time. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.

People tell me I'm weird. I take that as a compliment. It's nice and uncrowded out here on the end of the bell curve....

"Old is good so more older is more gooder."

Thus the mad scramble for the pre-CBS F*nd*rs and now the really nutzo pricing on 1970s F*nd*rs.

Let's face facts. If you want a Fender, you don't want a Performer or a JP-90 or a P-bass Lyte. You want as close to a 50s-60s P or J as you can get without paying the collector prices.

And while people like to talk about how wonderful the 70s Stingrays were (and some of them are great instruments, no doubt), we - the fanbois - know that THIS is the time, these are the instruments, right here and right now, and you don't have to hope to find one in some granny's attic to get one for a good price.

I'm not slamming Fender, either. Who could blame them for continuing to produce Precisions and Jazz basses? It's clearly what their market wants. Can you imagine how frustrating it would be to be a design engineer for Fender? "No, Doug, that's not close enough to a 57 Precision...back to the drawing board."

Meanwhile, we get Big Als and Bongos and Reflexii and all those rosewood necked beasts.

Everybody wins.

I wonder what would generate more "Ooh..aah" comments and "What the hell is that?" looks; a Big Al/Bongo or a P/J? Hmmm...

EBMMs aren't just about looks either; they happen to sound superb, play great, and are of high quality at a fair price.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against F****r.

One problem with forums is that the most inane uninformed lack-of-thought posts get just as much space as the thoughtful experienced ones.

Also, for some reason it's okay for a tone best reserved for BSing among friends with beers in a garage and taking it to the internet to publish for the world to see.

What do I know, though - I'm 32 and much too old to know the right way to talk on teh internetz.

I dig the quote though!

Ain't that the truth!

If it were up to some buyers, every option would be available on every bass in every possible colour. Of course, the manufacturers would all be belly up soon after...

There are lots of choices these days though and that's good.

The poor bastige. ;) That is equally sad and funny.

Victims of their own success.

BP. Seems to me you have about 250-300 die-hards on this forum that will love nearly anything you do. They are your loyalists. What's harder is to attract someone that isn't an "EB for lifer", like me, who plays many brands, and has just got his toes wet with a SUB, wanting, saving $, to graduate to that elite group. You have to keep innovating to keep your loyalists happy, but with innovation you'll likely attract some new blood along the way. Thank goodness for innovation! Without it, we would all be still playing uprights!

I like Fender Basses. I grew up on them.
Likewise; I'm 51.

I'm 56 and Fender was about the only thing available growing up in Buffalo. I've owned some nice basses, Fender, Lakland, Rick, EBMM, but the only one left I put in my car is the EBMM, in large part due to EB inovation. It only took me 50+ years to figure it out.

I've said it before and I'll likely say it more- In all honesty, I keep trying to find an instrument that's a better fit for me than EBMM.

I ain't doin' so hot. :D
In all seriousness, people talk about the point of diminishing returns. I feel EBMM is at the peak.
