Hello everyone. Today I just put in an order with Bass Central for a brand new Big Al. This is actually my first bass order, so I'm not quite accustomed to the wait. I'm excited. :D

Here are the details of what I ordered. I feel it's a pretty unique combination.

Bass: EBMM Big Al 4
Color: Candy Red
Pickguard: Shell
Neck: Maple Fingerboard w/ Matching Painted Headstock
Pickup Config: SSS

Congratulations! I got my GC rep to get a Cabernet Big Al for me and it was awesome! I would have it here now if it was about a pound lighter. Since GC does not weigh their basses it was a total crapshoot...I lost! BUT I talked to 3 other guys about EBMM while I was there and even got some of the guys from the guitar counter AND the guy working at the door to check it out! They all loved it and there is a good possibility that it may already be sold when I go back! For anyone that might be interested it is a Cabernet Pearl/Rosewood Big Al with an SSS configuration in Alder and it weighs exactly 10 lbs as best we can tell with the digital scales I took to the store...The tone is KILLER! The middle Pup sounded so much like a P that I almost had a heart attack. GREAT tones in both active and passive. The guy that was there when I was checking it out was playing a Fend&* P bass and when he heard me playing the center coil he stopped playing the one he had and came over and listened for a few minutes and started asking questions about it. I gave him the skinny and then handed him the bass. He played for about 7 or 8 minutes straight and was knocked out. I told him the price and he said he would love to check out the Mahogany version before he bought one but he was now a convert...So we got at least one convert for the effort...

The wait is terrible for me but it always seems to get there eventually! It will be here before you know it and in the end you will have an absolute KILLER bass!

Peace,

T

This has me worried about mine or order. :(

Congrats to the OP on what will be a great looking bass. I'm interested to see what tort on Candy Apple Red will look like.

There are light ones out there! It seems the Mahoganies are about a pound lighter...If mine had been in Mahogany it would have likely been OK...If the Candy Apple is even remotely as nice as the Cabernet it is sure to be the bomb!!!!

Peace,

T

Yeah, I never thought I'd ever see a bass with three single coil pickups. That's innovation for you. As far as my color choice, I did a Google search of "candy red with shell pickguard" and saw some pretty eye pleasing results.

I was worried initially with so few color selections that I wouldn't be able to come up with something unique. However, I now feel at ease that this will be pretty unique.

The Big Al is unique by itself, whatever color you get. I had mine with me to a workshop last saturday and all of the people that played it were very impressed with the sound.

You have the color I really wanted. I honestly never loved olive gold until I saw it on the Big Al. Bass Central had one with matching headstock and maple board, but I missed it by two days. :(
