Anyone know if I can buy a Stingray 4 string, pre-wired 2 band eq pre and plate from Musicman and drop it in as a direct replacement in my Stingray 4 string bass?

Thanks!

I don't think so, the company is pretty guarded in selling the electronic bits unless they're attached to wood. I'd get a 2 band eq plate in a heartbeat if it was available, though.

If you really feel the need for a 2-band set up, there are plenty of used Stingray electronics floating around. You would have a nasty hole in the side of you bass though. Or you can invest in a used 2-band EQ Stringray bass for a resonable price :D

That might sound like fun but don't do it. Buy a used sub bass and see if you like the 2 band.

I am new to this forum, what is the difference between the 2 & 3 band eq. The reason I'm asking is last Saturday I bought a secondhand SUB active with a 2 band eq,and the set up looks like the Classic Stingrays what is the difference in sound & tone.

do a forum search and there are many threads about the difference between the 2 and 3 band bass sounds.

Generally a 3 band stingray will sound a little brighter and also has the ability to adjust the mids on the bass itself which I like. I own both 2 band and 3 band stingrays and i really don't have a preference as to which I like better. It depends on the day and what my ears like on that particular day.:D

i have a 3 band stingray and a 2 band sub and while i love the vintage thump i can get out of the sub with flatwounds, i always go back to the stingray for that mid control which is really important in a good bass sound

John East does a great pre for MM.
Its a 4 knob plate (so a direct replacement, no nasty hole at the side)
Although it has a sweepable mid, when the mid is centred the treble and bass work as if it was a 2EQ, late 70's SR4 Pre. Very clever IMO.
He also does a 3 knob 3EQ that fits on a 2EQ SR4.
