Knowing very little about the Big Al, but having formerly owned a 25th Ann bass - how does the big al compare tone wise, feel, etc.

This is so absolutely true. The SSS still has the EBMM vibe and signature sound, but it's just so versatile and can cover so much territory. Swiss army knife? You betcha!

Agreed. While I'm hot for a single H, the SSS is absolutely KILLING me (and Cliff Hugo). I love my Bongos and won't be clearing them out at bargain prices or anything, believe me, but this is definitely a welcome addition to my instruments. I can't put it down.

I've been playing an SSS Big Al 5 for three weeks now and like many others can't seem to put it down. It's voice is totally unique and like my beloved Bongos, can be a do it all, jack of all trades bass. There are so many usable sound combos that I am looking forward to exploring.
I ,ve used it on some trio gigs and also with a 10 piece rock band with horns and it just cuts through with ease.
The single pickup version is also great and in a perfect world I would love to have a fretless single H 5. MM has hit a home run with the Big Al and the SSS can really be a one bass solution if you play many different styles of music as I do.
