In the case of the L-2000 pickup - no.

The real question is why would you want to?

That's certainly my question. If you have a Sabre bass that is original, don't mod it. If you don't like the sound, flip it for cash and buy what you want. Just leave it the hell alone.

Perfectly articulated! Music Man bass guitars are all extremely well thought out...everything goes together perfectly including the PUPs.

There are other companies that just slap on basic PUPs. Modify these ones, but not a Music Man.

Yeah I think you're asking the wrong guys.

Not only do we all love our MM basses as they left the factory, most of us don't know or care about aftermarket parts, because there is no need to when owning a MM bass :)

What generation Sabre?

As Ken said if functioning don't mess with it.

If a dead pickup, see about a rewind. There is no drop in replacement. The L-2000 has the same width neck to bridge as the Pre-EB but has a different housing that would need mods in the Sabre to fit. It is the closest thing to fit but isn't the same.

I got's both and wouldn't alter Sabre for anything. They were a very unique MM bass.

Good luck and think the group may be a bit harsh, but it's because we love the instruments and as said before well thought out......so why mess with perfect.

If a pickup will physically fit and it matches the type of pickup you're removing (passive vs active) then there's no reason why you can't wire it up. What it may look and sound like is another issue altogether, you may have to just experiment for yourself and see what works for you.

What exactly are you after? It's your instrument to do with as you please, but if a pickup isn't designed to be used with the existing preamp you may get unpredictable results.

If your existing pickup is damaged getting the stock pickup rewound as another poster mentioned would be your best bet.

BTW - nothing is perfect, no instrument, no man. There is nothing wrong with the OPs thought process. Some folks just like to experiment. Leo Fender was one of those people and without his willingness to experiment we wouldn't have a number of nice instruments that we have today.

And, that's why I always shake my head when the zealots jump to conclusions before hearing all of the facts.

What does the pickup routing look like? I'm sure there are some good pickups out there that will work until you find the right ones. Hopefully, someone here will be familiar with some replacements and be along shortly with some helpful information.

Good luck getting a playable bass going.

Should fit. I don't know of any other pickup that can fit without routing. The pickup sitting on the strings makes it look longer but it isn't. You will have to get a replacement guard to cut for the squared ends to clear.

Aren't there any famous replacement pickup companies or small handmade pickup shops out there that provide replacements for Sabres? And: Did you contact EBMM Customer Service about this? (maybe silly questions, but sometimes the obvious gets overlooked)
