I bought a SUB a few years ago and was just blown away by the sound. I used it exclusively for a while However the neck just won't stay put so I have reluctantly stopped using it. Now I'm forced back to my Jazz bass for playability. I've thrown money at the Jazz but it just doesn't sound like the SUB. Is there a better neck that can be bolted on? Has anyone else had this problem. I'm sorry to say but the neck on mine has just been crap, the rest I couldn't be happier with.

man sorry to hear about that,i know their are high end companies like status and mosrite that make graphite necks, but of course ur looking for a nice wooden neck ,which in my opinion way harder to find, the thing about musicman necks is most people keep them on their musicmans! hence stuff like the fenderbird, but yeah good luck finding a replacement neck.

I'm not really complaining I just want to make the SUB better. So I'd like to know what other MM bass parts would bolt right on. Like neck, pick guard, etc.

well, I can tell you from experience that any pickguard for Stingray 4 will also fit a SUB 4 precisely (as long as it has the truss wheel cutout). That's been the only mod I made to my SUB4.

You could get a Status neck (how's that for stability) or possibly buy a replacement neck from EBMM if you return your neck to them. Ask customer service, they rock:)

hey you know what yeah i remeber someone modding a sub bass with an olp neck,or was it a sub neck with an olp body either way that could work, but the sub neck is way nicer compared to an olp,but then again it will work better than a warped sub neck.

Olp has 4 screws to mount the neck. You would have to drill more holes. The olp neck is not near the quality as the sub. Call customer service.

If you do go down the OLP neck route, as 57fenderjazz has pointed out that the olp is a 4 bolt neck there may be an answer. While serching for information on the SUB basses found a thread on Basschat.co.uk - the UK bass guitar players' forum called musicman sub bass project.

The guy had bought a SUB body & an OLP neck, he drilled 2 extra holes to get it to fit. Have a look at the thread for yourself & see what you think.
