So the collective forum answer is....

All of them! They all make the best fretless. I think what you are comfortable with for a fretted bass you might love without the metal bits. Or you could go for something completely different. I didn't hear anyone mention the Classics but if that is an option it may be awesome with the mutes and all.

Good question. Has anyone ordered a classic with a fretless neck? You can't. I just went and looked and I am not seeing a fretless option.

Bongo 5 Lined Stealth Fretless

I recently acquired my brand new Bongo 5 Lined Fretless. It is the Stealth model, which has the ebony fretboard. I am now playing it with DR Sunbeams (am I allowed to say that here?) and am very pleased with the playability of my bass. Oh, BTW, mine is a lefty. I ordered it from the great guys at BassCentral in Orlando. Please excuse the crappy iPhone photo of it, haven't had time to take pro shots of it, too busy playing!

I have 2 unlined fretless EBMM basses; a 1996 Stingray 4 & a 2009 Dargie Delight II Big Al 4 SSS with an ebony fingerboard.

Both are absolutely awesome instruments, and are the best fretless basses I've owned.

The Big Al is strung with rounds, and the Stingray is strung with flats... the Big Al has an amazing neck is far more tonally versatile, but the Stingray with flats never ceases to make me grin. Each time I go to put the Stingray on ebay, I play it for a few minutes and come away wondering how I could ever think to part with it.
