Kudos to the musicman for adding mutes to a bass!

seriously on that one. i walked into a guitar center and other places even and saw no mutes on a single bridge on any basses, and this was true even in the 90s before the classics and while the basses still had mutes.

after playing on a ray with mutes i bought a bassmute for my non classic bass on grounds of mutes simply belong on a bass.

i think its beyond awesome that musicman has decided to put these back on the basses and offer people the awesome tone that mutes provide! its nice to see at least one of the basses on the wall of a music store equipped with them. they offer a slight difference in tone but its a really really great difference

What exactly are the bass mutes? I don't think I have ever played a bass that has them.

To be fair, there are quite a few Fender Ps and Js that still ship with bridge covers and mutes. They just don't install most of them at the factory because they know a lot of players DON'T want them.

Leo's next design (the one that shows up on the classics) is definitely superior to the bridge covers muting methodology, even if I think the BassMute has vastly improved on the muting option even more.

Bass mutes are pieces of foam placed under bass strings (or on top of bass strings as in the case of the P-Bass) to reduce the amplitude of string vibration without altering the pitch of the strings.
