Pickup Wiring on BFR Jp6 mod.

just want to know if this can be done on my BFR Jp6
can i have the next configuration:

Tone Down
1 - Bridge Humbucker
2 - Both Humbuckers
3 - Neck Humbucker

Tone Up
1 - Outside Coil of Bridge Humbucker - Or Parallel Bridge Humbucker
2 - Inner Coils
3 - Outside Coil of Neck Humbucker

and what do you guys think sounds better if it can be done, outside coil of bridge or parallel bridge humbucker..

im kind of going for how Andy Wood has his guitar wired. thanks

I would write down exactly the combinations you want and in what positions, and take it to a tech and ask if its possible. I would think that something like those combinations would definitely be possible with a push/pull or two.

Splitting is the easiest thing to do, you can split both p'ups with one push/pull.

However the problem is that you'll be grounding one coil from each p'up, so whatever coils you keep active are the ones you'll have to use in the middle position (either inside or outside). So not easily doable to have outer coils on the bridge or neck, but inner coils in the middle position.

For series/parallel: a push/pull can do one pickup only in series/parallel. If you do that with the bridge, though, it's going to mess up the middle position (one coil from each in parallel). There's no easy way to have the p'up in parallel, then have one coil only in the middle position.

I think Andy has a push/pull in the bridge for series/parallel. But it's probably like that no matter what he combines it with.

So it be easier to have when up,

1- Bridge outside coil
2- Both Humbuckers
3- Neck outside coil..??

and when down just normal stock..???

Well you can do a bunch of things, but easiest would be to have full humbuckers when down (bridge HB, bridge HB & neck HB, neck HB) and split coils when up (inside coil bridge, inside coil bridge & inside coil neck, inside coil neck).

Pretty easy to wire up. Downside is the middle position changes to both HBs in parallel with the pot down.

from your experience what sounds better or more strat like?? outside or inner coils??? from what i here on youtube with andys guitar outside coil on the neck pup sounds pretty good.!! one other thing with hes guitar it looks at least on video that it doesnt loose that much volume when split coil or inner coils are activated.. on the jp6 u can definitely feel the drop of volume when using the inner coils.. could be just the videos on youtube

Neither. On a Strat, the pickups are closer together. You can make it up depending on how you EQ your amp, but your Pet is not going to sound like a Strat no matter what you do.

If you have a chance to play an ASS, HH AL or 25th you can swap back and forth between inside and outside coils to see. They're pretty close, really. I prefer inside for some stuff, outside for others. But for wiring simplicity, I'd probably stick with inside.

There's always a volume drop when you go to a split or parallel coil position. You don't hear it on YouTube b/c the audio is compressed so it brings the volume level back up. You could do the same thing with a compressor on your pedalboard if it's a big issue.

If you want a few more sounds and you're handy with a soldering iron, you can do the push/pull split coil thing pretty easily (or pay a tech). It's totally reversible, you can go back to stock if you don't like it. But my advice is to not drive yourself nuts, there's no major revelation here, you may get a few additional sounds but split coils don't sound exactly like good single coils, and the Pet won't sound like a Strat.

A lot of this is in the hands and your amp ... watch the Johnny Hiland clips where he plays a Silhouette. He's playing a humbucker in the bridge and pulling off some great country licks, you'd never know it was a humbucker.

is there a simple way of doing this with my BFR without having to cut too many wires and or buying anything else..??

The simplest way would have you unsoldering 4 wires from the switch (two from each pickup), then re-soldering them to a push-pull pot (which you'd have to buy). Not rocket science, but you'd want to make sure you do it cleanly. Easy work for anybody with a bit of experience.
