Ok fellas, the bug has hit me hard. I now own two Music Man guitars
(JP6 w/piezo and a Pacific Blueburst Axis) Singlehandedly the BEST guitars
on the planet in my opinion. I'm looking to sell two of my Ibanez guitars
to buy one MM, but I am confused about tonal qualities on two guitars I
haven't had the pleasure of playing. I'm looking for the tonal qualities
that a high-end strat provides, without actually buying a Fender. I also
want a trem on the guitar, so hardtails are out of the question. Which
guitar in your opinion can get me the closest to that "sound" of the two?
I would be also consider a Morse model if a few comments come in on
them. Thanks for the advice!

Side note - I'm currently playing in a band with my father-in-law, and we
play a lot of classic rock. Hendrix, The Who, The Yardbirds, The Turtles, The Doors, etc...

You cannot go wrong with a silo. I'd do the silo special for more strat like tones. Of course the Luke is great. Some don't like EMG's. The neck on the Luke is also a different animal. small a v-like.I like it but prefer the silo neck.

Both would work, but yes Silo is more likely closer with out efort , really you should look into a Silo Special HSS with trem for what your wanting, check out DuBaldo Music has a DDII Silo Special in stock, I love mine:)

You cannot go wrong with either Silo Special or the LUKE. The silo special might be a safer bet, since the LUKE has a different neck profile and the EMGs. The Morse would be just fine for those styles as well...he certainly can play anything with that guitar.

I play some Hendix and Who stuff - also Free /Foo Fighters/Killers/CSNY/Beatles/Motown
and my Albert Lee handles all of these - I generally use one guitar and mostly the Al with the trem and Piezo. The Classic AL with 3 single coils as opposed to the Humbucker version

The SSS Al would be a great guitar to cover your setlist.

From what I've read, the AL pickups are closer to the classic strat sound than the ones in the SSS Silo, but you can't go wrong with either.

There's your answer. I've had a band leader asking me for more of a "strat" sound at times, so I show up with the Al SSS every time.

I have both and for me the luke comes closer to the strat sound than the silo.I've played a silo spec which comes even closer to stratville than the reg silo.I'd say that the luke is a bit more souped up sounding than a stock silo spec due to the emg's but I love the sound and versatility, plus I can back off the volume knob a bit and it cleans up nicely.Plus I prefer the luke neck over the silo and silo spec.
Being a former smy2d owner and having played both the standard and smy2d morse guitars I feel the morse is kind of it's own animal. It covers alot of sonic territory but still sounds unique.Of course the only trem option they offer is a floyd rose which is cool but doesn't work for me.Try out a few different ebmm models if you can.....you'll know the sound that works for you when you hear it.As always this is just my humble opinion and yer results may vary :D

The Silo Specials would be closer to the strat for sure.
The regular Silo is more of a modern strat.

Women go hysterical when you whip out a Luke. If you want a guitar that sounds thin and quacks like a duck then don't get a Luke.

believe it or not both guitars are very versatile I have a luke w/piezo I love it. The neck is thin but the shape still allows me to get at those pesky but fun Jazz chords. As far as strat sounds the single coils are eq flat in the luke so the sounds really reflect amp character more I think. Ive played a hsh silhouette and the tones were great very stratty in 2 and 4 positions I imagine if one wanted you could put a set of fender pickups in any sss hss or whatever pickup combination you choose. One thing about the luke there is a similarity in single coil sounds to david gilmour who has a emg loaded strat. I really enjoy my luke it is sooo versatile and the active controls really add to the versatility. I know there is a new emg x humbucker that is supposed to split when bridge and middle are activated (the 2 position I believe somone correct me if i'm wrong) which is very stratlike. I hope this all adds to the confusion good luck on your hunt for a musicman you'll love whatever you get and don't be afraid to go find them and play them thats the best way to really connect and realize what you want. ;)

I have had both but I did not get on with the luke that well. I much prefer the neck, frets and pups of the silo. The luke is a superb guitar just not what I am looking for.

Silo for me.
