Anything special I should know about soldering in the MM JP? The wiring looks very straightforward, however, the wires are very close and I am concerned about the connections getting solder spread across them as they are very tight proximity.
thoughts out there?

Its really not a big deal, but if this is your first time, then make sure to take all precautions. A good sodering iron is key for good and quick work.

The best advice I can give you is, if you don't feel comfortable doing it either practice on something else or take it to someone who is comfortable with that type work.

If it were me, I would contact CS and ship it to them - seriously

Their wiring isn't done with the regular type of iron. It's an arcing electrode device.

I wouldn't try the usual heated tip. You may melt something in the switch.

Just sayin

The electronics are still basically the same as in other electronic devices, so if you have a good soldering iron and you know how to use use it (e.g. correct temperature range) there's no problems. But considering that we are talking about quite expensive EBMM guitar (in EBMM forum) it might be good idea to contact customer service before doing anything... ;)

This might sound ridiculous but before I did the pups in my old JP, I tore an old phone apart and practiced my soldering on that. That was the first time I soldered, 10 minutes later I went live on the JP with no issues. Just be very careful.
