I've been doing a lot of pondering and soul searching (okay maybe that's too dramatic, but it's more than just thinking) about why I am gravitating towards only playing/owning EBMM...

I've come up with several reasons for me.

First, I love the sound. In the end I think that is what should drive your instrument choice. The EBMM sound(s) are especially pleasing to me.

Made in USA. I know this is not a big deal for our friends across the pond, but for many of us here it is a selling point.

Made in CA. Same as above, only I have even more respect for businessmen who choose to stay in CA as we do nothing to make it easy on them.

Made in SLO county (my county). Though part of the operation has been moved, I still consider EBMM a local business. SLO county is not the easiest place in CA to own a business. In this county EBMM is very well known, and made local news when they had to move part of the operation.

Finally is build. They really are amazing instruments. You get what you pay for, and all of the above factors contribute to the cost but also to the quality. If you look at resale value, MM seems to keep theirs quite well. I think this has more to do with quality than collector's appeal (right now).

I can't afford to have a bunch of them, but they are good enough and I have developed enough of a loyalty that I'll save my dollars for them and play only them.

What reasons do you all have?

Might be time for one of those new fangeled Big Al's; remind me of what I saw and heard 25 years ago.

honestly i choose it because cliff williams uses them and i play in an acdc tribute. i've alwys used the "F" word basses. don't me wrong i'm happy as pie with it and it has become one of my favorites to play. if i ever get a 5 string i won't need to shop at all , i'll go for SR5 for sure.

I used another brand for the last 17 years and never thought I would change. I liked the feel of their basses, the sound and the looks. The only experience I had with a Music Man bass before was one that was super heavy and it had a really wide neck. Looking back on it now, I also do not believe it was set up properly at the store as it did not have a good sound to it. When we started attending the church where I was the youth pastor, the senior pastor had a Music Man SUB. It played very well and was almost as light as my other basses. After a while, his bass really started to grow on me. Finally, a few months ago, I traded one of my acoustic guitars to a member on here for a Sterling 4H and have never looked back. Since then, I have ordered a Stingray Classic that is currently being built (Breast Cancer Awareness Bass) and have a Bongo 4HH Dargie's Delight II on layaway at Bass Central. Hopefully I will have it paid for soon as I am selling 2 more guitars. If not, then I will have the other half paid off in about 2 or 3 more months.

I tried and played almost everything what's worth in the bass world before I bought my first and actual Music Man bass!

I bought it because:

1. great wood work

2. great hardware

3. perfect pickups and electronic, especially H bridge pickup at "sweetspot"

4. great design and finish

5. only Music Man basses sounds equal at any string, at any fret position

6. fair discount price at my local dealer

7. I always wanted one

8. perfect tone,...etc.

The owner of the company is a bass player and really knows what it takes to build the best instruments. The sound, feel and looks blow the other instrument makers away. American quality at it's best! :D

I like the way they feel in my hands, the way they look, and that it's extremely easy to get a usable sound.

I lusted over a Stingray long before I had ever tried one. The look of both the SR4 and SR5 just hit me over the head and it was years before I was able to afford one. Now I have five Ernie Ball basses and have no desire to play anything else. They are home for me!
