I messed around noodling on and off for a bunch of years.. I got serious about guitar playing three and a half years ago.
I'm starting to play now. So, I guess you could say I've been playing for about a week now. You?

:) I always put the A before the H in have.

About 7 years.

I've been seriously playing for probably the last 2 years.

Although, I'm still just a basement player. :)

Great thread btw.

Hi Slowlicks.

I started learning guitar at 15 after playing trombone in the school and Welsh Youth Orchestras. I started having classical lessons - but couldn't be bothered to learn music for the guitar and to this day still play by ear, invariably not knowing the names of the chords I play.

By the age of 18 I was playing in local clubs and by 19 playing in a successful band in Cardiff called Eager Beaver. We even had our own 48 seater bus converted into 3 compartments seating/bunk beds/gear compartment - the fore runner of todays tour busses. We had two roadies too!.We stayed together for some years and toured Germany once playing in the Schwabing Club (PN Club) in Munich. the band who played there the week before were AC DC and the band that played the week after was Japan. We also supported quite a few bands of the 70's - Medicine Head, Racing Cars, Billy J Krammer!!!Sassafrass.

I left the band and played in some local bands. Then (horror on horrors) I lost interest in music and stopped playing for a long time - but still kept my gear.

My first proper guitar was an SG Standard then my Les Paul (which I still have) then started playing again in 2005 when I discovered Ernie Ball MM guitars and the wonderful things you could do with a Line 6 Pod.

My amp history went as follows
Impact 60 watt head through 4 x 12 fane speakers
HH IC 100 through the same speakers
Marshall 50 watt head through a sound City 4 x 12 (with horn) then a slanted Marshall 4 x 12.
Then I got an old Fender 2 x 12 cab
Then my Marshall Silver Jubilee (which I still have)

I'm now 55 and enjoying playing again and helping out younger players.
I realise after all this time and after playing lots of guitars, that EB are one of the finest manufacturers out there and wish they had been around in the 70's.

i've been playing for 4 years now i think....
but i got serious the last 6 months from now....

started at the age of 14 because i saw mt brother having so much fun on the guitar (and secretly wanted to be a rockstar)

around a year ago started to listen to dream theater ana thats where my inspiration came from for really learning to play the guitar

started with a cheap ass indie guitar and bought my first hi-end guitar 2 years ago wich was a js1000 from ibanez of all the money i had back then (and even a bit more :p) because the handling of the guitar and the admirance of joe himself

after searching for my owne sound i got inspired by petrucci's sound and bought myself a koch(dutch brand) powertone I with 4x 12 cab last summer

and to gain more perfection in my tone i ordered a JPX 2 months ago and it still got to be delivered :(

Hmmm still waiting for my first EB

I started in the mid 80s when I was a teenager. Played for a few years and joined a few bands until I got into college. Electrical Engineering courses kicked my ass, so I didn't play much then. Then I got married and had a kid... went for a Master's degree.. had another kid. Well I just played the acoustic here and there.

In 2006 I was suffering from an injury and decided to buy a nice guitar to give me something positive to focus on. That was the Silhouette Special. Since then I play nearly every day, have joined a few bar bands and play out a couple times a month. I have made alot of friends along the way too. It has definitely been very theraputic.

At 14 I got a Sears Special with inspirations of becoming a rock god to my parents utter dismay.

I played seriously till about 22 when I attended college and stopped playing for years. I always had a beater around though.

In 30 years of playing I have owned 40+ guitars and now just play for fun. I’m just a basement hack.

Ironically, I did almost the same as Spud (except for the bus...I had a van). Started playing in 1966. Band was Midnight Crystal. Stopped about 1969. Started when my younger son started 2 1/2 years ago and been practicing and playing hours a day since.

Started at 4:20 when I got back from work but now I will have to stop because my wife is banging on the door telling me to put it down.
It's like that everyday since I picked up the instrument a few years ago from a ten years break after my teenage band years...
