Hi, first post. Could anyone help me with this serial number # 85703? The guitar looks genuine but it has a white plastic toggle switch (the actual toggle) and a dark looking neck and fretboard. Still birds eye though. Dubious about putting money down on it after picking up a fake PRS last week. Luckily I was able to get my money back on it. Thanks

The serial comes up as a Trans Gold EVH done on 6/14/94

you should have seen the EVH that popped up on craigslist here... it was a trans black body with a Warmoth custom neck... i cried and tried to work with the guy on the price but he wanted waaaaay too much for it... at least the neck on this one seems to be ebmm... a bit dark but then again it is about 16 years old... WOW!

It is the one off Ebay Australia. So it is legit but the pickups are not original. Do you guys think it is worth buying?

I don't think the neck is grubby just stained darker.

Personally, I don't think so. But that's just my opinion
I got in contact with them just to appease my curiosity and on the photos i got the frets were green - yes, green with corrosion. The close up neck shots showed the action WAY off the neck, enough for me to be concerned.
At that they were asking au$3k, i believe it dropped to 2.5 and i haven't looked since - they may have cleaned it since then??

I'm not saying it's dodge or anything... and it may clean up fine, but when i spoke to them they couldn't tell me anything about it or whether the neck was straight, level of fret wear/life etc combine that with a non original bridge pick-up (the original pickups are amazing!) and i just thought steer clear of that one haha..

The neck isn't stained darker. They get darker a couple of ways, lots and lots of playing is one and that's fine.
You should see a few of mine :D
But dirty hands or poor ongoing maintenance will also contribute and given the green-ish frets, well i wasn't sold.

For your reference, the below EVH sold only a month ago in near mint condition, in aus, for Au$2899. If i was going to pay similar cash and park my money in one, i would look for something like this.

Ernie Ball EVH Musicman - eBay Electric, Guitars, Instruments, Musical Instruments. (end time 22-May-10 18:25:14 AEST)

Welcome to the forum by the way! :)
Axis/EVH is an awesome guitar! Awesome!! Let us know for sure if you pick one up

in that condition it's only worth $1200 you can't buy the original pickups but the rest is easily fixable.

Yeah I saw that one! Love the top, but yeah feedback can be a concern.

Hang in there and keep an eye out.. They are around and do pop up.
Was a while ago now, but I got my axis second-hand on aus-ebay. Had minor use, no dings worth worrying about and amazing top - Felt like a steal paying $1300 ~ $1450 (Can't quite remember exactly what it ended up with shipping but was in this vicinity )

As far as ones within your price range, you just missed this one just last week:
Musicman Axis USA - eBay Electric, Guitars, Instruments, Musical Instruments. (end time 05-Jun-10 17:14:27 AEST)

Axis is such a great guitar. Definitely my gig go-to axe at the moment.
