I know that Music Man has been making guitars since 1984.:D
I just wondered what models did they make in 1984 and have
any models been discontinued over the years?(other than the EVH)
Cheers

SUB/SUB Sterling/SUB1

I *think* the Benji Madden is discontinued as well.

Plus there are the pre-EB models like the Stingray guitar and Sabre bass & guitar.

I can't believe that I didn't think of the Sub1.
I own 2!
Wonder what some of the dates are for when the different models came to be?
Axis?
Luke?
Sub1 start and stop?

Actually there were no EBMM guitars in 1984; I believe only basses (Sting Ray and Sabre) at that point. MM themselves had not continued the guitar models after Leo Fender stopped making them at CLF Research circa 1981 (the same factory was making MMs and G&Ls simultaniously for a couple of years; after the MM contract was ended Fender "retired" the CLF Research name and maintained the G&L name).

The EBMM guitars were designed by Dudley and BP; the Silhouette was released in 1986 and the Steve Morse followed in 1987. Here's what I recall as the timeline and I hope BP or someone steps in and corrects me where I'm wrong. Keep in mind that EBMM makes continual improvements as the years go by (examples - oil & wax neck finish, 5-bolt rounded neck heel, locking tuners, etc.):

Silhouette: 1986-present
Steve Morse Signature: 1987-present
EVH Signature: 1991-1995 (replaced by Axis)
Luke v.1 (with Floyd Rose): 1993-1996(?)
Albert Lee: 1993-present
Silhouette Special: 1995-present
Axis: 1996-present
Axis Sport: 1997-2001 (?)
Luke v.2 (vintage trem): 1997-present
Axis SuperSport: 1999-present
JP6/JP7: 2001-present
Sub1: 2003-2007
Benjii Madden: 2004-2008 (?)
Steve Morse Y2D: 2005-present
20th Anniversary Silhouette: 2006 only
BFR JP6/JP7: 2007-present
BFR Luke: 2007-present
BFR JP Baritone: 2008-present
BFR Albert Lee: 2008-present
BFR Axis: 2008-present
BFR Axis SuperSport: 2008-present
BFR Silhouette Gold Roller: 2008-present
BFR Silhouette Double Neck: 2008-present
25th Anniversary: 2009 only
Albert Lee HH: 2010-present
Reflex: 2010-present

Lots of gaps in the old memory here :

When did the Luke v2 replace the Luke v1?
When did the Axis Sport actually get dropped?

EDIT: Fixed a few things from the EBMM history section.

At least it's a start - please make corrections.

It was later but I don't remember when exactly...

Actually I should have checked the "history" section on the MM website - the JP Baritone is listed as being introduced in 2008. I've made a couple of corrections to my list; still looking for more things (particularly when models were discontinued).

Hm. Maybe the same year but months later.

You sure know your MM history John.

I bought a book about 4 months ago that Spud recommended and I’ve yet to read it...
Music Man 1978-1982 (and then some) The Other Side Of The Story by Frank W/M Green.
So far, I’ve only looked at the pretty pictures. :)

It was a year later - the BFR JP6 and JP7 (and the BFR Luke) were introduced at the Winter 2007 NAMM; then the BFR JP Baritone at the Winter 2008 NAMM. I think the BFR Albert Lee was also at the Winter 2008 NAMM and then all the Axis and Silhouette BFRs were introduced at the Summer 2008 NAMM.

add to that, some options that disappeared like Floyd Silhouette and I think you well get a pretty good picture of the discontinued models from EBMM ;)

I would love to see a book on the History of EBMM guitars with all the models and tons of big a## pics of each, with a company history rundown.

Got mine from Amazon.com for $25.

Copy & paste the name below...
